Does anyone have any information on how she is doing? Has anyone seen her and taken pictures?

I haven't seen anything, but that is meaningless.
I'm sure that she is suffering the worst of fates. Who wouldn't be in the face of a relationship's death, especially when they are the ones left behind? Regardless of who did wrong & when, the end can be terribly rough. I'm certain that this will be a bleak Christmas for her...

I agree and that is why I asked....She has to be going thru the pits right now...All the if's, and plans that they may have had....At least Ellen has an outlet with the shew....You knoe Ellen always says at the begining of the show when she gets applauded how good it feels, and how everyone should get to feel that at least once a day...I wonder who is applauding Alex

Aside from us, not many, I'm sure. It's a shame though. She seemed to keep Ellen grounded & deserves her fair share of credit for the support she has lent through these last few years.

What do you guys think of the "official statement"?

What do you guys think of the "official statement"?
I think that they were politically correct. It lacked the cattiness that you would expect to see & projected the love that you wouldn't, necessarily.
It seems that they had to say something, especially since the news has broken...while there was nothing wrong w/ their statements (& I hope that they were true, the parts about residual feelings, that is), readers could still feel the pain.
If nothing else, everyone should feel comforted in the knowledge that they felt the need to handle this messy period tactfully. Their management of this horrendous time actually speaks well of both of them

Alex doesn't need applauding, she does need and have her friends and family. She has a huge extended family, her mom, Bridget is here in Los Angeles and I believe her sister is also. She also still has Ellen and their mutual friends, who like true friends won't desert either one of them, thank goodness. They broke up but I really don't doubt they are in contact all the time as their lives were co-mingled.
But I must say often when things are not *right* for lack of a better word, the ending may be a long time coming and putting on a *face* is a very hopeful thing. I can't tell you how many times I have gone out to a holiday party with my partner just cuz it was expected and easier than not showing up together. Looking back it was really a bad thing to do, didn't help the relationship and made our friends uncomfortable. The brave thing to do would have been to go alone.
I think about Ellen's interviews and I look at them now as an attempt to make it better, sorta if you speak it out loud, its so. I doubt it was a lie, more a hope that it would work and she found that it couldn't.

What a worse time to breakup, during the holidays. Breaking up with someone after 4 years has got to be the hardest thing. I know that they both are hurting tremendously. Which sucks for Ellen because she can't do it privatley because of the show. It is not like the last breakup. But you can tell she is not her same self on the show. I'm sure Alex has a strong support system from friends and family. They broke up in the beginning of their relationship but some way found that path to make things work and they did and lasted 4 years. Hopefully, what ever it is they can find that path again. I just don't see them throwing away their relationship.

If anyone's interested.... and as a continuation of the thread
Alex seems to be doing OK; rebuilding a year or so later.... obviously it was a very hard time for her.
In 2005
A good samaritan started a fan site for her... (she approves)
She had her 2nd show aptly titled (Re)Building in July'05
She directed a short film titled "In the doghouse" - How relationships and pets dont really get along :)
We saw her out publicly a few times most recently in Nov at Power Up presenting an award
She's doing a few clips for LOGO with other notables -
" Review of the year in Queer" I dare say she's sexy in those clips
AND FINALLY
She's been filming the Season 3 L-Word which premiers THIS Sunday.
Her character's Dylan I'm told.... STAY TUNED !
So hey you put one foot in front of the other and JUST DO IT !

Is it just me or does it seem that Alex has had a lot more going on for her professionally than Portia through 2005?
P doesn't have any new movies or TV projects in the works that we know of, and with AD's future up in the air, that isn't a sure thing anymore.
And being someone's girlfriend isn't really an accomplishment...at least not in Hollywood. E is her sugar momma now, I guess.
Alex has moved forward. Good for her!

Ouch! Tigger2, that was direct. 8O
But somewhat true. I was just wondering though, what is it that makes you get up one morning and realize that you don't wanna be with the person whose lying next to you - and after such along time - 4yrs - And spare a thought for Portias ex-girl friend too - she got shafted as well.
And if you can get up one morning and just change ur life whats to say that you won't do it again and again and again.
I just think that contentment is whats lackin in the world today.
Though I still think Ellen's da bomb - there will never ever be anyone like her. Except maybe if she has a kid.

Don't get me wrong i like them all Ellen, Portia, and Alex from what i have seen of Alex... i am a big Ellen fan since around 1985 or 1986 when she was doing standup.... Ellen needs a challenging person to be with, you know someone who challanges her... When she was with Ann Heche she challanged Ellen to speak out and be proud Ellen was pretty quite until she got with Ann then Ann went " LITERALLY PSYCHO " and broke Ellen's heart and she found comfort with Alex unfortuantely Alex got caught as the rebound girl but was no challange for our Ellen... until introducing Portia who has Ellen back out in the public again being more proud and vocal again.... which is only good for us other lesbians the more society accepts her they accept us.. the more famous gays or lesbians are out there breaking down sterotypes the better for us all.. Rosie set us back a little with the shoving it in societies face bit... i like the way Ellen is going about being openly gay without shoving it down societies throat. she is a classy lady :D
As for Portia maybe she doesn't want to play the typical lesbian characters she was never about that. Being with Ellen most likely cost her some sex symbol roles.. a straight person can play a gay or lesbian in a movie and audiences are very accepting but a gay or lesbian if they play a straight person the audience is not very accepting of yet especailly once your out in hollywood ... Portia has always pretty much played the sex symbol role opposite some hot guy. i am sure producers are not beating down her door now.
i haven't heard much about alex but i look forward on watching her develope.
Tigger2
01-06-2006, 08:29 AM
Ooooh, now that's an ouch, too!
But I think it's true. No one seems to be beating down Portia's door and the mags aren't panting for her photo. No more late night dancing shots. Most actresses her age (and some 15 years older!) have something "in production" all the time.
I think she's got herself a stagnate career there, but if she's happy as someone's wife, then to each her own. I think most of us would be happy as Ellen's wife. At least for a little while...

I think she's got herself a stagnate career there,
No, No, No once the producers and directors get over the fact she's with Ellen they will be beating down her door... she is too damn sexy to ignore... someone in hollywood will take a chance with her in a big blockbuster movie with her up against a leading man.... and she will laugh her way to the bank...   by the way did that sound convincing
she is a sex symbol that is what she does best.... :P
Tigger2
01-07-2006, 03:49 PM
But remember in Hollywood, being a sex symbol is what they ALL do best. If you're under 40 and you haven't had a big hit, you're just one of the girls auditioning. If you don't hustle, you don't get the plum roles.
These women are the same age as P:
Saffron Burrows
The Thread (2006) (post-production) .... Jenny
Klimt (2005) (post-production) .... Lea de Castro
Perfect Creature (2005) .... Lilly
Neve Campbell
Adina (2006) (pre-production) .... Adina
The Death of Harry Tobin (2006) (pre-production)
The Mermaids Singing (2006) (pre-production) .... Grace
A Private War (2005) (pre-production)
Relative Strangers (2006) (completed) .... Ellen Minola
Partition (2005) .... Margaret Stilwell \
Radha Mitchell
The Tender Hook (2006) (announced)
Hey, Hey, It's Esther Blueburger (2006) (pre-production)
Rogue (2007) (filming)
Silent Hill (2006) (post-production) .... Rose
PU-239 (2006) (post-production) .... Marina
Mozart and the Whale (2005) .... Isabelle Sorenson
Juliette Lewis
The F*** Up (2005) (announced)
Catch and Release (2006) (post-production) .... Maureen
Lightfield's Home Videos (2005) (post-production)
The Darwin Awards (2005) (completed) .... Joleen
Elisabeth Rohm
Aftermath (2006/II) (post-production) .... Rebecca Fiorini
After a quick search at IMBD, this is what these other actresses her age are doing. Even Sharon Stone (who's 15 years OLDER) has 7 projects in the bank through 2007!
All I'm saying is...P better get busy or she'll wake up one day as E's ex and need a career to fall back on. Being sexy will only get you so far in a world where they're always looking for the next big thing.

Blimey! 8O Completely off-topic but is Portia really the same age as Neve Campbell?!!!! 8O Woah, maybe it's cos I always associate her with the Scream films (which I'm sure she "loves" :P  ) but I thought she was like 27-28 or something...how old is she?

Blimey! 8O Can't believe that, where on earth did she disappear to for 5 years?! Wow, anyway back on topic, yeah think Portia needs to find a role that isn't a comedy role (since she's done Ally McBeal and Arrested Development and they were/are her 'biggest' roles imo) and isn't fixed to her looks, so something that shows off actinf talent, maybe a nice drama or something... :)

the women you mentioned are all straight we are talking about lesbians... even though Neve Campbell ( takes moment to pray to god ) is WOW .... would love to see more of her acting :P
if Sharon Stone ever came out as a lesbian her career would come to a hault along with Jodie Foster... Hollywood is not ready to have a real life Lesbian playing lead in a major movie with a male hunk co-star...
i don't know the others you mentioned i'll take it that they are straight...if not please advise me.....
as for Alex i like her as well and i look forward to seeing her grow... she is an earthy HOT...

Just an interesting article I found where Portia talks about how she isn't sure she wants to continue acting after Arrested Development is over. This article was before she hooked up with Ellen as well. Just thought I'd throw this out there seeing as how y'all were wondering why Portia doesn't seem to have any new acting projects.

I didn't think of this as a lesbian issue as much as the issue of whether or not P was actively pursuing her career and how busy other actresses her age are.
If she is relying on Ellen to provide her buzz in Hollywood, she may wind up regretting it when she and E are history. Training horses won't keep her in the lifestyle to which "she's become accustomed." But it sounds good when you have a very rich sugar momma.
Maybe she isn't very ambitious, and that's cool. But if the debate really is that because she is "out" she won't be considered for any heterosexual roles, then it's a whole other ball of wax.
It could still be many decades before actresses who happen to be lesbians will be treated like any other actress. Is it any wonder that Jodie Foster has kept a lid on her orientation?
What we're all tip toeing around is P is no longer on the "go to" list of hot actresses now that she is out. And she may already anticipate it, so she's lucky to have the line that acting is a career that she might drop out of...to soothe the sting that she no longer has the appeal she once did when she was closeted.
Ellen had to work hard to build back her appeal from her fall in the late 90s and she hasn't done it by pretending that she's just like every other actress. She has other highly marketable skills that don't rely on sex appeal at all.
Unfortunately, while P and other lesbian actresses are talented, Hollywood may not make it too easy. If they can't sing, don't want to be a model and don't have desires to be directors or other jobs in the biz, then being a sex symbol might be taken off the list as well.
BTW--Saffron Burrows is for sure bi-sexual and she's done okay for herself. But she may not expect to be the femme fatale anymore.
All I'm saying is this is one of the most devisive issues lesbian actresses face today.
I'm pretty sure when I clicked on this thread to read it, it was entitled 'alex' and yet for some reason i found myself reading about portia, which i don't really enjoy doing at the best of times but in a thread about alex...thats just not good.

What's weirder still is how people who are fans of Ellen are so anti- her new girlfriend. At an Ellen site, I would expect to read about her even if I didn't like her that much.
In the beginning of their relationship, no one could say a single negative word about Portia. If you said you thought she didn't look good in an outfit, you were crucified. Like you were committing a crime by expressing your opinion about a celebrity for crying out loud!
THEN no one wanted to talk about Alex because others thought that was hanging on to Ellen's past, and if she didn't want to be with Alex, none of us should be allowed to bring her up either. Which pissed me off....
NOW we have people who don't want to read a single word about Portia! Unfortunately, she'll come up from time to time and it won't be because people are trying to screw up the thread. It's just life.
