two comments come to mind after reading this post.

1. Do rappers, such as p. diddy or however he is known, change alias' as a way to make more money off of them selves somehow, you know marketing and having the rights to a certain name...? Any thing for more of dat dough

2. Having a one letter call name can only be done with certain letters of the alphabet like if the letter sound ends in the "e" sound hence, "Yo P" or E,P,B,G,T, or D....I rarely hear " Yo S, whats up S"... Just a thought
