i just saw "the invisibles" and "sirens", and oh my gosh...portia must have been real confident about her body, why shouldn't she, but to actually appear nude in more than one scene...not that i am complaining...i now can't wait to see "women in film"...those movies left me speechless.

Well she swims naked in a pool, is naked in a shower and a bathtub scene and...well... uhm....she is sitting on a toilet peeing.

That movie is really great, but alot of people don't like it, they things it is weird because the whole movie is just the three women characters and they each do their scenes alone and as if talking to the camera. I think it's brilliant though.

i've never seen this so i looked it up and now i'm more confused well,

Three women in Hollywood talk to the camera one summer (with a coda six months later). Sara is a casting director; her soliloquies are addressed to Samson (her blind infant son) and to Holly Hunter. She talks about her husband's refusal to touch their son and her discovery of his affair. Gina is a masseuse - blithe, solipsistic, scheming to steal the energy of Hollywood players. She frequently refers to her dead sister Wanda, kidnaped by their father. Phyllis, sexually abused by her father when a teen, addresses her son Eric. She's a producer, working on remaking Pasolini's "Teorema." As the project falls apart, so does she. All three hum or sing, "You made me love you."

i got it from http://imdb.com/title/tt0247823/
that website also gives other people's inputs as well... i kinda want to see it now :)

just finished watching "women in film" its about these three women in the entertainment industry and how each of their lives are connected and the movie plays like a documentary all of the actresses talk directly to the camera...it was really good, i enjoyed it. and if that does not interest you...just fastforward to all of portia's nude scenes that should make someone watch the movie.

to: pink devil - Portia was in Scream. Only 2 scenes but she was good. I love her role in Sirens - for her first real acting role she was fantastic & as a fellow Aussie, I enjoyed listening to what was her Australian accent. The nude scenes, well......just added to a great movie.

Thanks to u all on this thread, I have now added a new movie to my Christmas list: Woman in Film

I actually just saw Sirens today and thought Portia was great in it. The "lesbian tickling scene" was strange.. the whole time I was puzzled.. was Portia's character meant to be a bit gay? Because she was sort of enjoying it.. It was Elle Mcphersons character and katie fischers character rubbing Portias legs and arms and chest etc while Portia was a bit drunk and half passed out beside a river.

Portia was really great in that movie. It seemed really natural and I believed a lot of the things she said as if she really was the character.

Oh and at one point she (Giddy) says something along the lines of "Oh no modelling is just a way to get myself recognised - a stepping stone - so I can go on to be an famous actor". I thought that was such a coincidence as thats what actually happened to Portia!?

Anyone in Australia happen to see the Friday Night movie on 7?

"The night we called it a day" starring none other than Portia playing an Australian reporter during the time Frank Sinatra came out here in 1974... also had Dennis Hopper, Melanie Griffith it wasn't exactly movie of the year material but I had to watch it for the Portia content ... I'll try & upload some screen caps later

I actually bought 'The Night We called it a day'. I think its called 'All the Way' in America though.

Ummmm I now don't like Frank Sinatra. I think hes a horrible person.

I thought Portias accent was really bad (argh i'm sorry portia!)!! At times I was like oh god - and thats saying something because i'm such a huge fan of her!

Portia wasn't in the movie enough I thought. But it was a alright aussie movie. Probably give it 7 out of 10??

Finally - 18 months after buying it on impulse - i got round to watching Sirens, and I have to say it was a better film than I was expecting it to be!!
Portia seems to be almost the main character, she's in the story a lot more than elle macpherson. I didn't rate her acting too much, but for a first role she did really really well

Plus her body is AMAZING in it!!! I think her character was a wee bit gay as well, she was enjoying the tickling waaayy too much, but then I think it showed that we're all a little bit gay really....

My vote 7 outta 10...worth buying just to see portia :)

Now if only i could be bothered to watch The Night We Called it a Day

Well today here in Australia at 12 pm noon on Tuesday March 13 on channel 7 is a movie with Portia in it and it is called The Glow and it was made in 2002 and it also stars Hal Linden and Dean Cain and the movie is about Newlyweds are befrriended by an elderly couple with sinister motives. It also says this about it This made for TV film centres on couple Matt (Dean Cain) and Jackie (Portia De Rossi) who move into a cheap luxury apartment in New York only to fall prey to creepy goings on in the building. Jackie wisely surmises that the place is too good to be true and soon becomes convinced that their elderly neighbours are watching thier every move, While it's occasionally ludicrous, there are a few interesting ideas here and they gave the movie 2 stars.

Has anyone seen it? :)

i guess, we will have to wait a bit longer to see portia working on a new movie or tv show based on the following excerpt of an old article about her.

Now that she's landed the job, though, the model-turned-law student-turned-actress isn't sure she wants to hang around Hollywood once Arrested ends. The Aussie native is contemplating producing TV back home or simply ditching entertainment altogether and starting a new life as a horse trainer. (She's rearranged her schedule so she can spend her mornings ''shoveling s---'' and training Maital.) ''I've always seen acting as just something I did once,'' she explains.

I watched Portia's movie, The Glow yesterday. The story line was weird. These old people own the apartment building she and her husband live in and they interfer with their lives etc to keep them fit and healthy, just so they can later drain the youth out of them to keep their old bodies alive and well.... Strange movie, but Portia was the main character and did a fairly good job I thought.

She was also looking quite healthy back when it was made in 2002. Not as skinny as the Ally McBeal days. There are also several scence where you notice the tattoo ring she had for Francesca, on the right hand ring finger.

AussieDeRossi

Found this snippet on a pilot Portia apparantly did last year, but which never made it on TV, let alone turned into a series. Too bad - sounds sort of Sex and the City and I would have enjoyed seeing her in another comic series.

Untitled Young Single Woman in New York City Who Works for a Magazine Project
(Saturdays, 10 pm, CBS)
Audacious in both concept and tone, UYSWNYCWWMP mines the undocumented and rarified world of the young, modern professional in New York City. Unafraid to tackle issues that might be considered untoward or even sexual, UYSWNYCWWMP stars Portia de Rossi as Kara Jameson, a strong, independent career woman who is nevertheless stymied in her attempts to find True Love in the Big Apple. The pilot episode sets the stage for what is sure to be a water-cooler favorite when Kara's new executive assistant turns out to be a terrible employee… but a fantastic lover! Ms. de Rossi displays a deft comic touch as her personal and professional worlds improbably collide. Also starring Rachel Griffiths as Kara's imperious boss, Ms. Rhodes; Rachael Leigh Cook as Kara's aspiring-actress sister, Florentine; and Evan Rachel Wood as Kara's neurotic roommate, Rachel.

SIRENS IS AMAZING.

Portia is so young in it, and her accent is beautiful. I just love the movie.

Portia's the second main character in it basically. Out of the three models, she has the most scenes and things. The other two dont really say much and dont have a story line. The cover of the movie and things make it seem like she has a small part, but she doesnt at all. I dont know why they dont put her on the cover or her name, seeing as Elle Macpherson doesnt really do anything in the film! Oh well, I guess because it was Portia's first movie.

Anyways, you'll love Portia in it!

If the IMDB Database (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005577/) is correct, then that was her first movie.

At some point, a new release might change that.

It could be like the Rosanne show episode that Ellen appeared in. When it was on recently, she was mentioned in the description and actor list on the program guide for my DVR where I doubt at the time much mention was made of her in the TV guide magazine.

if they don't play, you can get an all-region DVD player (if you search on google there's some good info about which ones are good and how much they cost)... or some computers will allow you to adjust the region (I know macs will... but there's a limit on how many times you can switch between regions before it forces you to commit to one).

You probably want to leave the region switching to a last resort.

Unless I am confused, you are just allowed something like 5 or 6 switches before you are not allowed to change anymore.

zoeak

Yeah, computers only left you shift region a few times, but if you download VLC Media Player ( http://www.videolan.org/ ) it will let you play videos of any region. Just make sure you abort any attempt by other players to open the disc (or they will spit it right back out for being the wrong region), and then open with VLC, and everything will work fine. I've been using it for years, and bought DVDs from all over the world, and it's been great.

That is absolutely brilliant! I once bought 'Elizabeth I' in America and I've never been able to watch it, so thanks for the info.

i used a code cracker to fix my dvd player to make it multi-region. as they're all manuafactured multi region and at some point set to one specific region you just got to know which buttons in what order unlock it. you can google it to find the info, just look for unlocking and your brand/model

Sorry, I haven't seen any of those.

However, I was just watching The Invisibles, and noticed something. At 33:30 - an afteshock from a previous orgasm... the conversation goes like this:

dude: "What. What?"
portia: "Nothing."

And the 'nothing' doesn't sound at all like Portia's voice. It sounds like it was looped over later by someone else, the voice is higher pitched and has a different timbre. Has anyone else noticed the same thing?

MegaUpload (http://www.megaupload.com/) can handle fairly large files.
You don't have to have an account to upload.
You can still have some control over the file if you give it an E-mail address to send links to.

You have much more control if you upload it under an account.

I saw a comercial that it`s coing next week, and Portia was on it. Can you tell what it`s it about, and if Portia is taking a big part of it. They say staring Portia De Rossi & Christiana Ricci. But they always say that, and no big parts for her.
Can anyone tell me the story of it, if anyone had seen it!!!! As it`s coming the same time as TEDS. And i`m confussed what to watch. As i`m not sure if there`ll be repeat for that movie. They usually do, but just incase!!!

I saw it once on tv several months ago. It's kinda good, but kinda weird too. Portia only has two or three VERY short clips in the movie...one at the very beginning and one kinda in the middle if I remember correctly.

The movie is about a warewolf that bites people and then they get warewolf characteristics like body features and behaviors and stuff like a warewolf. You may want to look it up to see if you find anymore information because what I'm telling you may not be entirely correct, because, like I said, I only saw it once on tv...and that was months ago!!

For Ellen it's definitely If These Walls Could Talk 2 - out of all the lesbian movies I've seen, and that's not an unsignificant number, that's one of my favourite characterisations ever of a long-term lesbian couple (Anne Heche may have dropped that life like a gay hot potato shortly thereafter, but she certainly got that segment *right*). It feels very real and sincere. I also adore Goodbye Lover, it's hilarious, and it's so great to see Ellen playing a part so different from her "usual" characters; she does it very well.

For Portia Arrested Development wins everything, hands down. That's in my Top 5 favourite TV-shows of all times, and my all-time favourite comedy series (I love Ellen, too, of course, but that's a lot because of Ellen, and the subject matters, Arrested development I just flat-out love every character in every scene in every episode.) Of her films I'm fond of Who is Cletis Tout? and Stigmata, and also Sirens and The Invisibles.

And bad directing also .. that takes a big part of resposibility too.
I mean most of the story/script looks v.good. But the director couldn`t put the right idea out for viewers to see it better. And maybe sometimes he`s limited to some takes of producer that he can`t take another shot to make it better!!!

Its such a quirky and funny movie. I reccomend it!!

Cheers
Happy Tess
p.s Portia was helerious in it

My favorite is "The Invisibles" but it might just be because she's stunning in black and white. Cletis Tout is one that I want to like more than I do. The script is wonderful and hilarious but I think it would have benefited from being directed by someone other than the writer. I love when she opens the window and throws her leftover coffee on Christian Slater... makes me smile everytime.

I think her best acting movie might be the JFK Jr movie.... whoever directed that should have done Cletis Tout (or I Witness, for that matter) because he got a really subtle performance out of her.

Of course, when the AD movie comes out I'm sure it's going to be the top of my Portia movie list. Gah! I'm so excited!

Even Maya took bigger scene in that movie than Portia . The story even silly, i don` see what`s the point of that. If i wanted to watch a movie like that i`d watch Dracula instead :uglyconf:. I was really dissapointed. I even timed her apperance after the movie starts she appears 2 mins later for 1 min or less. And then again at 40 min and that`s it . And what a stupid script. Sorry i`m just so disapointed.

For Ellen - I haven't really seen much of her acting. I have seen Mr Wrong though & thought that was good. I loved Finding Nemo but that was just her voice. And loved the Ellen sitcom & obviously her show now.

For Portia - I have seen less of her. I loved her in Ally McBeal. I liked her in Nip/Tuck although hate that show. I haven't seen her in any movies. Didn't see Arrested cos I didn't get why it was funny. So I've only ever seen her in 2shows.

I also thought that Portia was fabulous in "The Invisibles". Its actually a really good movie (despite the extremely low budget). I actually read somewhere that they filmed it in a matter of days...and that Portia and Michael Goorjian acted in it for free b/c they really liked the material.

I particularly liked her character's staring contest with the honey bear. I wonder who won??? lol

Ooh, I never knew that! I find it quite fascinating that she must have been at the height of her anorexia while filming it - playing an anorexic drug addict. I'd love to know if they were in anyway related (or if part of the reason she took the role was that she had an excuse to stay thin/lose more weight).

Just saw The Glow and Women in Film... they both have their moments.... in WiF, portia's character reminded me a little of tobias on AD... musing about which director she'd like to work with etc... she plays crazy really well... in both films.

And it's kinda' funny now looking back on some of the gay references and sexual ambiguity of her past characters. She said she'd never played gay before Nip/Tuck... but she's played bi before. In WiF, she speaks derisively about lesbians but also talks about her experiences with women. In The Invisibles she makes a list of all the musicians she's been with and there are girls on the list. In Ally McBeal, while it was never explored, she says women are better companions than men and (in a different ep) hassles one of the guys about being jealous that women could be sexually satisfied without them. It's sort of an inside joke now to watch her films when she has these lines... sort of how Nelle snapping at Melanie (Anne Heche) is much funnier now than it was then. Anyway, just thinking out loud. Er... well... publicly anyway. :D

So I watched "The Night We Called It A Day". Absolutely by coincidence. I was reading one of those magazine scans I've seen in Portia's Photos website. And she was talking about this movie. And was in a complete shock!! Cause this movie been showing non-stop on the network channels that I have for months. And funny enough I didn't watch it once during all that time!

Again, I watched the movie and I have to say that now this a really good movie to watch, instead of that "Cursed" one! Didn't really like it.
Though that role is not really her very best. But she acted really really well, I just loved it and loved her aussie accent. Can't stop listening to it LOL. :p

Watched three of her movies so far and the list goes on. :o

You’re welcome. I never sow the movie and the little I see, it was hard to image Portia in this kind of role.

I hear it too, specially in the CKilborn interview, I know it from 4 years ago, but is also the longest I see her talking (and being her self rather then being a character), so the bigger the probability that her Aussie accent would eventually come thru.
I find it funny that so many people criticise her for loosing her Australian accent but there’s another Australian actress that I love that also lost most of her Aussie accent (although you can hear it slipping more frequently then with Portia) and that Poppy Montgomery and another funny thing is that both actress had refer to the fact that when they try to speak with their native accent they sound like a really bad fake.

Rachel Griffiths goes back and forth. In Brothers and Sisters (I think its the 2nd season dvd) the bloopers she is saying something and ending with the word tonight and then she goes Wow that was really Australian and she like whoops.

When I was watching Cashmere Mafia you can totally hear the difference between Miranda Otto & Frances O'coonor to Lucy Lui & Bonnie Sommerville. Miranda & Frances kept their accent. I guess it depends on what your doing and how much american you want to become. I can still hear Portia's sometimes... I don't think anyone can completely lose it.

I think when Portia's working she does hold the American accent really well apart from the odd slip :p But obviously when she isn't working and when we've heard her talk, I think she often sounds really Aussie, I'm sure in her everyday life she doesn't really care. She has an incredibly sexy voice though, I love how she talks :D

tcsced
12-12-2008, 09:07 AM
She said she dropped her Aussie accent when she moved to the US several years ago so I'm sure she talks with an American accent all the time now, but you can still hear the occassional word or two that doesn't sound the same as how we Americans would say them.

Cause we have reruns here of best serieses and that's one of it. And I want to watch Portia from the beginning! :D

first episode of season 2.

You’re welcome!
I love that season, mostly because of Nelle and the frog (Portia facials were just hilarious! And if I remember correctly there was some inside joke on the show due to Portia real reaction to the frog – I’m going to try to find the article that refer to that) and Ling, man she was funny.
I’m actually temped to do a montage with all the scenes between Nelle and Stephan (the frog), no matter how many times I see then I always end up with tears rolling down my face from so much laugh

EDIT:

Found it – Portia de Froggi

Well I can't assure that I remember that.

Cause I was young when I was watching AM and though I'm sure that I couldn't miss an episode at the time. Tho I can't remeber what I was watching. :uglyconf:

Thats hilarious about the Frog. I love Ally Mcbeal, I have every season on DVD. I loved Ally the Musical when she sings and that episode where she gets on stage and lip syncs but Claire (an old woman) is singing, so it's hilarious! :D

The thing About This Channel (Is that the Right Spelling?) Hits is it Only Shows "Ally" Once a day,so if you miss it That's it.I'm so used to Being able to watch a show over and over. This ep The cast get interviewed By someone so it isn't an actual episode, just an hour of interviews.

Ugh, what was that special about? I wish they'd put Ally at a different time or at least on twice a day or something. I tape Ellen in the mornings and I can't tape Ally even though i've seen them all. I think hits needs to put all their good shows like Ally, Veronica's closet, Suddenely Susan on at night and take Alf, Northern exposure, baywatch, without a trace in the afternoons.

Hahaha. That was sooooooooo funny. Claire is played by Dame Edna Everidge, another austrlian lol with purple hair and calls everyone possums... LMAO. And at some olympic event in Melbourne (I think it was the Commonwealth games) she told everyone (like the whole world was watching) to bypass Sydney and go straight to Melbourne and I was like you B*tch. Who says that at a Natinoal event? ANYWAY yeah that Ally musical epi was funny, and I love the frog. LOL.

After you click that STREAM VIDEO---did you PICK the speed for your internet connection???? :D

Pick the correct one and it should go---eg: I have cable for my internet, so I picked HD high---streamed perfectly.

However, the video did get disconnected twice cos of the internet connection. If that happens, there are several links for you to choose your options:

View it later or try a different speed etc..... I was able to hook right back on on finish the movie.
Good luck.

Yeah, Firefox begins to load and then tells me that I've closed the window and Internet Explorer opens the video and then says it can't find the source file.

Don't know if it might be because I'm in the UK?

Perhaps you should try watching it in Internet Explorer.

Going to the site using that might be what is required for you.

It might be that it uses a file type to play the video that your computer has Internet Explorer associated with.
