I watched it tonight, but no Ellen, Just Portia and was not impressed!!!!!!

Hope Ellen has not made a mistake here if it is true what has happened. In fact Portia was quite plain according to the pictures of her I have seen and she reminded me a bit of Chloe Sevigny from ITWCT....!

Still it is Ellen's life. Can't put my finger on Portia at all......!!! There is something.

If you have seen it what do you think????

As far as ellen and portia keeping it low profile ... that may be true...but I just find it suprisingly odd that the only pictures we have seen of them are those at the VH1 awards[where ellen is still wearing her ring] just thought I would throw that in. Although I am sad that she and alex have decided to call it quits I still adore her and support her as we all do here but I can hope that she and alex will end up together again if not I hope all involved are happy or content should I say.

Well this wont help that any....did anyone see a show on VH1 called Wendy Williams:On fire she was at the Big in 04 awards and she was on the red carpet and she talked to Portia, at first portia was talking to her about her dress but then Wendy brought up a pic in the Nationl Enquire of Portia and her ex-girlfriend and portia got mad and just walked away huffing and puffing about her bring it up!! Then wendy said " I know portia did not just walk away from me, anyway I heard she hooked up with ellen after the show so i dont know what her probelm is" Wendy williams is funny but I didnt really like Portia after she acted that way. Everyone should try and catch it its kinda funny to she her get mad!!!

I went to bed and videod the whole red carpet, so far nothing, and I recorded the post party as well but haven't seen it yet. Does anyone know if Ellen is on it or not. Would be nice to know before I sit and watch it.

i was flipping through the channels and found that as well. you could tell that talking about kissing a girl in front of a camera was extremely uncomfortable for Portia. i thought she came out.. so why would she have a problem talking about it? i dont really know. oh well.
yeah she just was like, "umm.. um. hmm." and just walked away without even looking at wendy. much less the camera.

Ummm, she was okay on Ally McBeal, and she's pretty funny on arrested development. Although, someone else might want to aswer this as my answer is a bit biased considering i'm a huge arrested fan.

Well, you can count me in.
I looooove to watch tv/movies for the stories and the acting and how that affects me and not with the personal background of the actors in mind. As for her personal background you could call me fairly neutral.
You could call me a movie/tv addict. I try to watch everything "that moves." :D

Well, concerning Portia as an actress, so far I have only seen all the Ally McBeal eps and Arrested Development.

Just when I was starting to get really bored with Ally McBeal, in 1998 they brought Portia in as lawyer Nelle Porter and actress Ling Woo as Lucy Liu. . And to me that did wonders for the show. I think Portia played her character as icy, ambitious, very intelligent and arrogant (although in later seasons her character changed more into a team player) straightforward Nelle really well. And it was mostly because of her being in the show that I continued watching it until it was discontinued in 2002.
And I was impressed enough to google her a bit.
(Did y'all know that she did study law in real life as well?)

As for Arrested development: I loooove the show. it's hilarious. Very cleverly put together and written. I don't watch it specifically for Portia. It is the way the show is put up, all the characters combined and their interaction that make the show great.
As for Portia, she plays her part convincingly enough and is (like the others) fun to watch. Although I think that if this were the first part to have ever seen her in, I probably would have just taken her for granted and not put any efford into finding out more specifically about her and other parts she played in.

However, I haven't seen her in other roles yet (sooo many movies, so little time).
I've only seen her in TV comedy so far and that wasn't too bad, like I said already.
In fact since Ally I have been kind of curious wether she would be able to play serious roles. Acting is a lot about facial expression and body language and having all those muscles under control. You need that in drama more than comical roles. Looking at her now I think she hasn't full control (yet). So she might be more suited for just comedy. I'm not sure.
I do suspect her to have some more potential than what I have seen from her upto now though.

Im so glad that im not the only one that thinks Portia resembles Drea de Mateo! I saw her in a magazine the other day and thought it was Portia but it said at the bottom who it was and that she was from Joey. I dont think either of them are pretty. I still think that Portia looks like a guy dressed in drag.

Hey I just remembered that I DID see Portia in a more serious role once! I saw her in an episode of The Twilight Zone. Which was from 2002 (I looked that up on imdb.com)
It was a really good episode and she did well most of the time in the looking scared, sad and angry areas.
The ep was about this woman whose husband got killed by someone. And it starts off in the courtroom, where the killer is convicted.
When she gets into her car on her way home she finds her husband's glasses and she feels this urge to put them on. Then she starts seeing stuff. Of course she gets scared, but she keeps on putting the glasses on and it turns out that she is seeing stuff from the point of view of her late husband. Which then, of course will lead her to the crime scene and to what really happened that day of the killing.

hi! did you like arrested dev? i think it's a fab show, very innovative! as for portia's acting, i think she's got her on and offs. overall i think she's not bad at all, she's got a nice balance between head and gut and she's got an attractive persona to let shine through (pers taste).
i do find there are moments when you just think oh my god what are you doing and all she seems to be doing is forming her particular little gestures (she's got a repertoire of them and they're really cool when they're in place...) but there are also a lot of moments when she gets it really right! i think she was excellent in ally most of the time. there's this one episode- it must be in the second or early third season- when nelle falls in love with some doctor on his last day before going to serve life sentence and i personally think it's one of her best achievements acting-wise (ironically)- it's really good - gripping !
i also liked her 'joy' in the invisibles, although i think that this film serves as probably the best example of her on-off journeys. but then again that's my personal opinion, i might be totally wrong... you should try to watch the film. it's good!

About Portia's acting... I think her role on Ally was awesome but I think that she had the writing and other actors helping with the success of the show. As far as Arrested Dev. is concerned I like the concept of the show but Portia's character is not very well developed in my opinion. Her character has that Nellish mannerism but isn't as clearly defined, leaving a void. She could have made herself stand out more as an actress by playing something very different from her past character Nell. This is like half Nell with nothing else to offer. That has nothing to do with the Ellen thing, that's strictly my objective opinion about her acting. Worth what you paid for it!
