Gift for Ellen & Portia

Ok, since the Portia Bday thing fell through a few months ago due to my life getting crazy busy I've decided that I'm going to put together something to send to Ellen & Portia over the summer, or early fall if it's easier to get it to her through the show.

I'm thinking letters from fans, anything you may want to send her that can be sent to me online (photos, artwork, etc). I think after last night we should do something special for them, Ellen took a huge step saying what she did about Portia.

So, any ideas? I will put an annoucement on the Portia site and forum and try to hunt down as many contact addresses as I can over the next few weeks.

thats a TERRIFIC idea!!! it really is!! i dont kno what i could give u to send but ill think of something, me and my mom did do paintings of ellen so maybe i could take a picture of them to send in to her. i dunno! but anyway i love that idea! :)

I'll figure out what we can send over the next few weeks. I wouldn't mind some help tracking down the best way to send it, etc. if people don't mind. I can handle paying to mail it if it's not like a massive box of stuff. I'll set up an e-mail account for letters too.

Fantastic idea! I'll try to think of something too. I think Ellen would love it. She gets letters and stuff from fans all the time but a whole bunch from all of us as a group I'm sure would go straight to her heart. She diserves the support. :D

This sounds like a really good Idea I'm just wondering if it will end up getting to them, I would really hope it does, i think it needs some one to plan the mission really well ha ha! I have a piece of art work I would like to contribute, it may be hard to get it along would have to post it to some one I think :D

I think it's a nice idea that everyone send in a picture of themselves and make a nice cover for the book with those pictures.. Maybe you could classify them in all the different country's you find on this forum..

ive written letters to her before, but I never had the guts to send them because i didnt think that she would read them. but if would deffinetly send one if a whole bunch of people sent them as well

If this works out then the ones that get to go should make sure that there is some kind of recognition for the others on this board here who support Ellen too. We could all be represented in this album or book we are trying to figure out here. I think Ellen would feel so much support and love from us if a bunch of us can go together and represent ALL of us. I am always amazed with how many fans here are from so many different countries. I think she would be impressed by our determination and strength as a group.

May be a few people should put them selves fwrd to over see stuff, as i guess your gona have the get the stuff in to to be able to then either put it in your book or what ever else is decided.

I have a piece of original art work which mite b too big to scan, so i would have to post it to some one whos going to be at the fore front of project E&P ha ha hopefully i can do that nearer the time :-)

hi! i know i haven't been here much lately and i apologize for that. but today i found this post and i love the idea of the gift. the only problem seems getting more people involved.

you guys said that you would send letters, artwork, poems, photos ect. in a book to them, right? well i was thinking that maybe to get more people involved you might also take little thank you notes from people to them. ok i know this sounds weird but let me try to explain. there's a community of the web called postsecret (http://postsecret.blogspot.com/) and it's basically about people sending postcards with their secrets on. it's completely annonymous and the postcards are pretty easy to make and still each one is completely different and unique. so maybe this is the way to encourage people who want to stay anonymous or don't have more time to make something. of course here they wouldn't write their secrets but more thoughts of how ellen or portia changed their lives. with either coming out, or with their work, ellen's comedy ect. than you could randomly put those in the book in between the other stuff people send.

and since someone mentioned recognizing other people too, but at the same time it would seem unfair to recognize people who didn't contribute to the gift right? but since this little postcards are easy and quick to make that would give more people a chance to be a part of this. and maybe you should put a little letter of introduction in the beginning, explaining where the gift is from (this board) and why we decided to make it and underneath the letter could be the signatures of everyone who contributed. it could be name and last name, just name and country, or maybe even just a name and the continent someone's from.

i'm just saying this because i know for myself that the main reasons that would prevent me from being a part of this gift would be the lack of time and the wish to stay fairy anonymous.

other than that you guys rock with this idea. it really is brilliant because she would definitely notice something like that, while just a letter from someone could go unrecognized. but i do think that if you want to make this in time there should be a sticky somewhere on this forum with the idea and info where to send it. also maybe the one that would eventually send it to ellen and portia could open a pay pal account so people could contribute for the postage and printing if they wanted to.

Ok I've set up an e-mail account for people to send letters. If you want to handwrite one and have access to a scanner, feel free to send me a .jpg of your letter and I will print it.

A few things that I can do for this:

I'm new on the forum but I've been enjoying it a lot for a couple of weeks. Thanks to all who posted videos of the Emmys :D

I think the gift is a wonderful idea. As a token to show Ellen and Portia how much we wish them well-it's great. So many people on this forum seem to feel the same about Ellen. She inspires us, makes us laugh and when I see how joyful and happy two people can be together, like Ellen and Portia, it fills me full of joy too. And we all want her to know! I think, as a group of dedicated fans! we can get that message to her. Who wouldn't want to read a book full of good wishes?!

Perhaps we could also write what she inspires us to do in our lives.

If there are any Ellen fans who are also U2 fans (like me!) you might know that some fans got a book to Bono which fans had made for him.
I have been an obsessed Bono fan for some time and am developing the same kind of obsession for Ellen :D Is it possible to have two obsessions and stay relatively sane? Anyone know?!

What can I say, they both inspire me to live in joy and to dream out loud.
And to spread good wishes around.

- Can you put your adress in the letter ?
- Can you put little photo's in your letter ?
- How do you include your art , do you have to send it seperated from the letter ?
- What if you don't have paypal ? I would like to contribute , but i don't know how. Do you need a creditcard for paypal ?

What I'm hoping to do before it gets mailed is post the book page by page on the Portia site in the gallery. That is, if people don't mind their letters being read. But yes, everyone involved will have access to the final product either on the site or I'll send it around as jpgs in an e-mail.

I would ideally like to get it all together by August and send it possibly to Ellen's show (if that's the best contact) for the fall when they go back to work. I lose access to the printers at work iun August too since I'm not working there the next school year.

I will certainly keep everyone's info private, I know I wouldn't want mine out there.

I have an e-mail account set up now that should accept attachments up to 15 MB. If it seems like that won't work I can set up an account on portiaonline.net for people to log on and upload stuff.

I was just speaking with my friend Natalie and she informed me she sent a letter to Portia c/o the AD set last year and never got a response. Now, part of that may have to do with the show going off the air and their production being iffy at times, and maybe because when Nat said "last year" she means like 6 months ago. I don't remember her being a Portia fan for very long :P

Soooooo I have Portia's "updated" imdb.com Pro contact info (manager, agent, publicist) and getting an address for Ellen's show isn't hard. Natalie has an account on some website where people post addresses they've had luck with so she will check out both Portia and Ellen on there in the next day or so.

Does anyone have any inclination as to where or who we should send this so it actually gets seen. Would Ellen's show be the best bet and send it to "Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi c/o TEDS"?


Final note since I got some e-mails about it...
Anyone who wants to send a letter or anything to be included, I'm making the cut off August 1st which gives me a few weeks to get it all printed and put together for mailing in early Sept.

Oh! And about Ellen perhaps mentioning this on her show when she gets it. I highly doubt that will happen if the stuff for Portia is in there too. Stupid network :(
