i dont know if this has been posted but i was wondering what do you think ellen is getting hypnotized for? i had seen just the commerical for mondays show and had seen ellen crying, which well made me cry, and that was just the commerical! so i was just wondering, what problem do you think ellen is trying to overcome that has been haunting her for such a long time?

My understanding about her smoking habit is that is something she is kind of ashamed of (have you ever seen pictures of her doing it in public?). I have read a few articles saying she was in the beginning stages of quitting, one as recent as last Nov., and I remember she had said something about quitting smoking on her talk show, I believe it was her first season. So, the way I see it it has been a real struggle for her...maybe enough of one to make her emotional. I dunno...just a guess.

My first thought was smoking too. Just brain storming here....could be something about what her mom's last husband did to her. People that are abused feel like it's their fault. I don't know. Ellen is so private. I can't believe she is doing this on television, whatever it is. She must be doing it to help others with whatever it is.

Yeah, those are real tears. You can see the preview at this website. After looking at the clip, I had a feeling it was about her struggle to quit smoking. I wonder if it's a struggle for Portia as well. I pray that this works for Ellen.

I saw the promo, too.
I'm sort of surprised she would get that upset over smoking. However, I guess it's not too surprising. I think she said (from the promo clip), "I've feel so stupid." She's frustrated she can't quit. She's been talking about breast cancer, so she probably feels like a hypocrite when smoking and telling people to stay healthy, ect.

Some people who decided to quit just feel very angry with themselves when they succumb to that stick- all too often they feel guilty and angry with themselves. I guess that must be how ellen feels...she definitely needs lotsa encouragement and support from friends.

I had a feeling it was about smoking as soon as I saw the preview. I heard her say she quit sometime last year, but I also read somewhere that one of her indulgences once in a while is a ciggarette. I forgot where I read that. I to am a smoker and have tried to quit a few times. In all honesty, it is a struggle. I can understand why Ellen would say she feels stupid. You try so hard to quit something that you know is bad for you, but you just cant seem to do it. I have been wanting to get hypnotized for smoking also, but feel like it is a scam or something. Or that is just another excuse for me to keep smoking.

Tears doesn't always have to represent sadness, it can represent a lot of things! Like, your Mom cried when you graduated from University, got married or maybe when you pass your driving test!

The usually upbeat host gets emotional on Monday's episode of her talk show.when talking to a hypnotist about her addiction to cigarettes.after being ask by hypnotist paul mckenna to think of four times she wanted to quit smoking envisioning them clearly in her mind be then ask her to than think of lighting up agian and degeneres beings to cry.Mckeena explains the exercise your brain like a compter, what we'er gonna do is reprogram it so that smoking doesn't mean the same thing again.

It appears the trick was a success, with ellen exclaiming three day's later i feel so good.I feel helthier it seems ridculous by my skin looks better i just feel like healthy i feel really good.Congra to ellen...i portia happy for her... :)

I'm looking forward to watching the show later today for two reasons; first, i quit smoking over a year ago (after 30 years) and feel a LOT better. I didn't use hypnosis, but used the patch and many hard tries at quitting.

The other reason to watch today is that they may be showing off the Rover TV portable video displayer that my husband bought me for viewing TV shows while I was in chemotherapy this summer. We took it to New York City this weekend and I submitted some NYC pics to Ellen for that segment of the show. Really funny with my bald head in front of a bunch of neon wigs!

It was a really compelling show!Ellen was hypnotized to cure her smoking habit.Plus,they brought a woman in from the stand-by crowd who was afraid of snakes and put her in a section of other post-hypnotics who the doctor continuously snapped to sleep...they fall flat on their neighbors lap."WAKE UP"!"...their totally up and watching the show!"GO TO SLEEP"!"WAKE UP"!"GO TO SLEEP"!"WAKE UP"!At one point,he tells them as their sleeping,that when they wake up again they got to laugh like they're watching the funniest movie they ever saw."WAKE UP"!"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"!"GO TO SLEEP"!"ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ".
I think the only ugly part of the show was when he told Ellen,in her trance,to picture a cigarette as a big hairy spit ball...and not forget that image.We didn't really have to hear that,but it was a great show!And,the lady outside was gently cuddling a big spider in her hand at the end.

I have a quit date of 10/24/06 and it isnt looking very good right now. It really is a hard habit to quit. I believe smoking is 80% in your head, 10% habit and 10% addiction. i wish I never started!

Was the book by Alan Carr or something like that? I heard her mention it on a show actually. Maybe I should try something like that. I have tried the patch but it only stopped for 2 weeks, went out and had a drink and smoked again. STUPID!!!!!

I wouldnt think that they would stage people to that stuff either, but it was just wierd to me. How can someone do that? Actually make someone fall asleep or laugh on demand. Good lord! I want to get hypnotized to hate sweets, quit smoking, eat all healthy food and love exercising!!

I'm actually quite sceptical about hypnosis, I guess it’s because I study psychoanalysis, but I loooove the moment when Ellen wakes up.
