so, ok, something kinda funny happened yesterday. i was about to fall asleep when i saw that Efva Attling (who is one half of Sweden's most famous dyke couple) was gonna be on some talk show on tv. so i stayed up and watched that instead, and they have this thing they do on that show where the guest has a fantasy/dream dinner with 4 people of their choice (living or dead), and Efva chose Oscar Wilde, some famous silversmith, Madonna aaaand... Ellen!! so they talked a little bit about the guests, and Efva had a feeling that Ellen and Oscar would be very funny together, and how Ellen is hilarious and that she's gonna host the Oscars in february.. then the interviewer said that Ellen is also a very brave woman, Efva said yes and they talked about her big coming out and how celebrated it was in the gay world. the interviewer then went on to say that there must be so much attention around Ellen all the time, and that it might be similar for her (for Efva and her wife Eva Dahlgren) since they are also in the foreground or in the public's eye like that. to that Efva didn't know what to say, and she seemed very uncomfortable all of a sudden, which was a bit strange to see because she had been happily chatting away about how Oscar and Ellen were gay, she had even mentioned that Ellen is together with Portia.. so yes, strange in a way, but at the same time i can understand how it must be hard to know what to say to stuff like that. "so, you are the most famous gay person in Sweden.." -eeeeeh, yees...? but anyway, to Efvas uncomfortableness the interviewer said "shall we move on?", and she said "yes, please!", and they started talking about Madonna instead.

and then, i also started thinking that it would be fun to hear from the members from all the different countries here about the most famous gay person and/or couple (male and/or female!) in that country. tell us a little bit about the person(s) and post pictures if possible! so we can use this thread for that. i'll tell you about Sweden later, or if someone else wants to do it (i've seen there are a few more of us here). but now i'm exhausted, this is the most i've written in... years, i'm sure! :lol:

Her work strongly contributed to the decriminalisation of gays in 1972 and the introduction of an anti-discrimination act in 1981. Friele and partner Wenche Lowsow (Norway's first openly gay member of Parliament) were one of the first couples to tie the knot when same-sex unions were legalized in 1993. Friele also placed 4 in the 2005 national poll of "last century's greatest norwegian".

To PaulaInLove: I guess most norwegians are reasonable, but unfortunately we also have quite an influential pack of Christian conservatives who oppose every step made in the right direction. And all though gay people have the right to marry in Norway, the right to adopt children and artificial insemination are not included in those rights (as it is for heterosexual couples). But I'm hoping the current government will change that in the next few years :)

That stinks, it's the same in Germany, but it took us a lot longer to push the civil union through.
