why it was such a big problem that ellen came out? because there were already 2 gay people on the show, peter and barret. was it because they are men? i really don't understand.

Ellen had the public image of the girl next door ,for the average american.people who arent around gay people had no idea .it was shocking because she is cute lovable nice and bla bla bla.i think it shattered what conception of gay women people had at the time .it made them realised that we dont all look or behave like truckers (not that there is anything wrong with that) that being said it wasnt a shock to the gay community ,i first saw ellen on carson way back when and i knew right away that she was gay .remember that peter and barrett were portrayed with all the gay steryotype that are associated with gay men so they werent shocking because they fit the bill of what people know about gays .if peter had been a 6.6 " firemen/policemen/football player ect... then it would have been as shocking as ellen .my original point is Ellen could have been with anymen she wanted so why does she need to be gay ,thats basically what was shocking to the average american .

but when you look at the series, people must have known something. i mean it was so obvious. or is it my gaydar? you just had to look at how she was dressed. and there is nothing wrong with always wearing pants, but it is the whole picture.

It was also that she was the LEADING character in the show. I think that was a BIG part of it.

i think probably.. most people had a feeling that she was gay but when she finally said it on her show, they didnt want to believe it. They didnt want her to actually say it because that made it true. She probably had many fans who were christian.. and the common misconception that "christians" have is that God hates Gays(which really makes me angry cause i am a christian and nowhere in the bible does it say that God hates gays, it does however say that God loves everyone equally and that we should love everyone too) anyways that was probably alot of the problem with it too.

nowhere in the bible does it say that God hates gays

The Third Book Of Moses: Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

yeah but it doesnt say that God hates them.. it says that it is a sin just like lying, cheating, stealing, murdering etc. but to God all sins are equal
its a really controversial subject

They say that the act of a gay relationship is wrong, not being gay. You can be gay all day long and not act on it.
