cultural references in G.I. Ellen

Hi. I want to make a student's lecture in my university about cultural references in the episode G.I. Ellen. I Know there's a reference to G.I. Jane (in the title and in the final leg-shaving scene). And I think the part where she carries the flag comes from "Birth of a Nation". But I was wondering if there was anything else. If you've noticed anything (a quote, an image, part of the plot etc) that reminds you of some old movie, tv series, novel, historical event and so on, I would love to know what it is and where the reference comes from. And if you have a critical assey that deels with just that, I would love to read it.
