i love mythology too. in fact, for my 11th birthday one of my friends gave me a huge book on mythology (not ur average 11 yr old's bday gift) but she knew i was into mythology so it was great.

i started watching hercules when i was about 9 yrs old (im almost 21 now) and soon after, xena premired and i fell in love with the show. about a year ago i bought all 6 seasons on dvd from ebay. (and the 10 yr anniversary dvd) i still tivo all the reruns that air on oxygen and watch them all the time.

i watched it every week when i was younger but, like some of u, when school started up i kinda stopped watching, but i got back into it in full swing about a year ago.

whats ur fave eppy? least favorite?

mine is:
fave...i have a few... "a day in the life", "in sickness and in hell", "fins, femmes and gems", "tsunami", "the quill is mightier", and "a comedy of eros"

least fave... "married with fishsticks", "deja vu all over again", "send in the clones"

I love Xena, I have most of the series on DVD, however I am finding it difficult to get season 2 and 3, but I will. I like most of the same episodes already listed, I always get a kick out of the funny episodes, but I like the serious ones too, I really really liked the musicals, those are probably my favorite episodes. If I were to list them all out it would be a very very long list, so I guess I'll just leave it at that.
I started watching when I was 10, I didn't want too, but my best friend loved it and she made me watch it and I ended up loving it more than she did.
With me though I go through cycles of things, I will love the show, immerse myself completely in it for months and then I won't watch for a couple of years then somehow I will rediscover it and it will eb the same all over again. But I am like that with everything so its no surprise.
This topic made me happy, I'm glad there are other Xena lovers, although I think I liked Gabrielles character just as much for sure.
Oh The Debt was another (2 part) episode I liked a lot, probably really high on the list of favs.

my favs would be when fates collide, a day in the life, animal attraction, past imperfect (shes so sexy when shes evil), the bitter suite, the ring trilogy

least favs: the convert, locked up and tied down, a good day, legacy

the 6th season is my favorite season :-)

ive watched bits and pieces of the con dvds online but have never been. i think this year's con is on the east coast (where i live) so im gonna try to go...we'll see what my parents say. lol im so young

i probably should have specified in my first post that i meant any fans of the show xena? thats really what i meant. cuz i love gabrielle just as much, if not even more than xena. without gabrielle i wouldnt have been/be the big fan i am. i forgot about the musical eppy "lyre, lyre". thats one of my faves too.

No no I knew what you meant, I just didn't want to sound like I only liked Xena, I knew what the topic was about, and yes Lyre Lyre is my all time favorite. I actually got a mythology book as a child for my bday once too. Hey caaaaa did you see Renee O'Connors site? Seems she's an artist now... and a good one.

Thats the site, I thought it was pretty cool, I just discovered it a couple of days ago.
And personally I liked Gabrielle the whole time but I really did like her characters growth. She just kind of grew up and by the end she knew who she was and could handle that, although I have to say the time I liked her the least was in her passive days after India, I liked that she came out of that at the end of Ides of March though, that she realized she couldn't always stand idly by. But I also liked that she was always so good, always looking for the moral thing, I am happy that they finally wrote a balance for her though.

whatd u think of the series finale of xena?

studentforlife
04-01-2007, 10:56 PM
I refused to watch the last part, I still haven't seen it to this day, I know what happens I just don't want to watch it happen, I thought the first part was wicked, really well done. It bothers me that they killed her though, I hate watching episodes of shows I like when people die.
What did you think of it?

caaaaa
04-01-2007, 11:05 PM
i didnt really like it. when it comes up in rotation on oxygen, i usually dont watch it (pt 1 and pt 2). it just makes me sad. plus the storyline about her saving the souls doesnt grip me like other episodes do. i thought they could have done better as far as what they decided would happen in the end.

what characters did u like besides xena and gabrielle?

i liked callisto, ares, aphrodite, and although lots of people hated joxer, i liked him.

studentforlife
04-01-2007, 11:14 PM
Yeah I agree, I think that the end wasn't exactly doing justice to the show, not that I can fully form an opinion but I am happy not watching it.
In any case I liked all the gods, they were all interesting well maybe I didn't liek Hades so much, Ephiny, Eve, Callisto and I liked Joker too, he could be annoying but he was funny. There are probably more but I can't think of them right now.

I've been buying all the DVDs as they came out, but I still haven't watched Friend in Need. I do mean to, but having read summaries (and full recaps, and reviews, and seen the music vids, and read the interviews... ehm.) I just can't seem to bring myself to actually see it.

My all-time favourite episode is When Fates Collide followed closely by Bitter Suite, A Day in the Life, and Fallen Angel... And for some reason I've never figured out I can't quite stand the India-arc in late Season 4.

Love Xena, and later-seasons Gabrielle more than early. Learned to tolerate Joxer, adore Callisto, and have a wee crush on Aphrodite.

Have you seen Lucy's sister site to Renée's? http://www.lucylawlessfanclub.com/ I highly recommend the videos from her performance on Dinah Shore Weekend, she's hotter than ever.

I've read a lot of fanfic, I haven't really written any, maybe a dabble but not to post. But yeah I really like some of it, some of these fan fic writers have real amazing talent. I've read gen and alt but I guess I've read more of the alt, what about you?

caaaaa

i really didnt like the india arc either.

i dont read fan fic for a couple of reasons: 1. cuz its fiction and id rather watch the show and know that thats really what happened (on tv of course) and 2. cuz id become obsessed & never stop reading it.

ive never written fan fiction either probably for reason #2 ^^^^ and becuz i dont think id have any ideas to write about.

any thoughts on gabrielle's daughter, hope? or the fact that she had a child in the first place?

I'm alt!fic all the way, swear by Xe/Gab. And I adore the über stories, too (that's originally how I got into the Xena fandom. I kept wondering why every single lesbian romance I read online had the tall dark and violent, and then the small blonde and gentle...). Missy Good is the most fantastic writer ever. Tho I will admit to writing a Callisto/Xena, once. But at least it had Xe/Gab undertones.

I love the entire Rift arc. From Britannia, and Hope, through Bitter Suite and on to Sacrifice. And it was wonderful seeing Renée playing Hope, (even if the Hope/Ares thing has me cringing to high heavens) she's such a fantastic actress, and didn't quite get to use her entire scope playing Gab. But I never quite forgave them for killing Solon.

OK, I agree with all of this, the entire post, its insane, I also wondered why every pairing was the same at first until I caught on that it was Uber, well I found the definition of it or whatever. And yes those are my exact thoughts on the Hope issue, I loved that it gave renee a chance to branch out some more and everything but I was always bitter that they killed off solan.

And when I started to read this stuff its because I am an extremely avid reader, I will read anything and everything, there are rooms full of books in my house and I pretty much read what was in the library so I ran out of material and money for a while so I turned to the internet, and I discovered fan fic. But yes it is addicting, for a while I read a lot of it, I'm pretty sure I've read at least 75% of what I have come across so far.

*sorry this is sort of a merging all of the previous topics (havent been on in a while)*

i like evil eve, ares, callisto and aphrodite (she makes arrogance sexy  ) borias was a favorite too and i absolutely hate najara..it was something about the way she was so self-righteous...*shudder*

the fin ep...i cried. it was so heartbreaking!!!! lol im such a nerd i think that xena and gabrielle should have been together..not xena and those stupid unimportant souls. i try to avoid watching the finale because im still sort of bitter about it

the gabrielle/hope thing. im sort of irritated at gabrielle for keeping the child instead of killing it...yes theres the whole "a mother cant kill her child" but come on. hope was the spawn of satan!!!

i love fanfic!! i dont write it though  alt is definetly my thing :o

i like lunacyreviews.com and academyofbards.org because they have huge amounts of different types and they do summaries...

what about fan art? i adore it

Merging is good. Gotta be able to include people in your answers.

And I'm so with you, searching007, I liked all the evil people except Najara. Those are some of the only eps I've only ever seen once and never wanted to see again. (those, and Tsunami, which gave me nightmares...)

I love reading. And I've just recently started buying my favourites of those published über stories, it's such a bliss to hold them, and touch them, and have actual book that I can bring with me instead of just computer files.

Amazontrails.com is one place I've spent a *lot* of time at, and AXIP, too, with its wonderful Bard's Corner. But I write, too, as often as I can (tho most of it remain in my journal, never to be posted). But mostly shorter stuff. I wish I could write novel-length exciting über pieces, but alas, drabbles and vignettes are apparently more my thing.

Ellen is actually the first fandom (if you can call her a fandom...) where I haven't depended on fanfic to keep me in it.

I love fanart, but I can't for the life of me create stuff of my own, so I never really got into it properly.

And as for the fanfic, any of you guys read any stuff by Advocate? She's my fav.

caaaaa
04-02-2007, 08:27 PM
i thought with najara, the writers went to a place they hadnt gone before, which was creating a character that was so powerful (for 3 ep.s) that it threatened gabrielle and xenas relationship. i liked the sort of test on their friendship but at the same time, i didnt want anything threatening that. it was interesting to watch, and i like seeing those episodes just to remind me how amazing they are together (xena and gabby)

zoeak

I *love* Advocate's stuff. My favourites are probable the Madame President ones, that she wrote with T. Novan, I believe. And I have fond memories of something called, uh, Echoes in the Mist, or something like that, with an island, and the younger siblings, and an old diary, it was one of the first in the genre I ever read.

re: Najara - maybe that's why I hated her so much. Because all the others that tried to come between them I could easily write off, for some reason or another, but with Najara there could actually be a real threat. Hmm. Must ponder... Good take on it.

Ah, right, Cobb Island, that sounds familiar... And I remember reading the sequel, but it's the first one that really stuck with me... I should re-read them. And Unbreakable is great, too. Are you thinking of the Provincetown series? Sheriff Reese Conlon and her partner Doctor Tory King? I *love* them, so much. Then again, I've never met a Radclyffe novel that I didn't like, but the Honor series, and the Provincetown series are definitely my favourites. And the stand-alone Golden Tiger, I adore that one as well. And Love's Masquerade... and shadowland and... :P You get the idea. She certainly has written a lot of them, luckily for us!
