View Full Version : What's the logic?

I'm not really one to complain much, but it has been bothering me for a while, and when it started happening to MY stuff, I HAD to speak out. (Isn't that the way it is, once it happens to you, it becomes a more important issue?)
So, if the web cam thread is for pics, why were the pics of Brian showing my name removed??? Why take the time and energy to post screen caps when in less than a day all your effort was done in vain and have been removed?
OK, so you say that we need "room". I don't necessarily understand that, but I can appreciate it. Why not, say, "delete" the pics that are in a very old post. I just don't understand the logic in removing posts that are very current when there are pages and pages of posts that are not even looked at, or even a picture from a MUCH earlier page from the webcam thread itself? And if you delete a post (without pics) that may be considered "mindless" to some, how much space are you really gaining? Why not take a picture from again, a much older post???
It frustrates me to no end to read a post, come back to it later and then have to spend what seems like forever to find it, to finally figure out that it has totally been removed from the forum. It takes the incentive away to respond to posts.
ANYbody else with me on this???
I think I'm done.

I agree 100% with you M. Who made the decision that the webcam thread is for pics only? I can see deleting posts that are almost duplicates of prior ones after some time goes by.
If "space" is needed so urgently, then have Visitor explain why and what we can do to lessent the problem. Don't start removing current stuff. How much space can be saved if we delete some of our "pm's"? It's a thought.
Would it help to revise the member list by deleting the older members who haven't been active in years??
It is time wasted when I have to search for anything on this site. Why? Because so many threads have been deleted, editied, renamed moved to a different category.
How about some announcements or additional rules for these "disappearing posts" ? !!!
Who is really running this site anyway?????

It seems to me that deleting oldest messages first would make sense.

Hi,
hhhmmm... I'll talk about this with the MODs in the next few days. Threads should only be deleted/moved/renamed in special reasons.
Can you name some example threads (with URL)?

Yes, M. I'm with you on this & noticed your screen caps pics were gone too!!! The WEBCAM page is a great example of how people on this site are enjoying getting together and actually having contact with TEDS. The comments are as entertaining as the pics, but having your name put up by Brian is a main event!!!! C'mon mods, please take space from old threads or find some alternate ways. There are many complaints about this site lately & most of them centre around "well, why post when it's only going to be taken off". That's not our way!!!!!

I have to agree with you Michelle.
As you I can understand when really old posts are deleted. Textmessages doesn't take that much space and even if there are pictures in the threads..they are not stored in the database. Those are external links.
It's so great to share the fun with others watching the webcam and it's cool to discuss about the seen things.
But it's not fun anymore....I think about 50 of my postings have been deleted so far because there was no picture in it. That's not right.

It frustrates me to no end the no talking in the webcam thread - its a forum the reason i joined was to talk. and plus when i miss action i like to read things the next day about whats happened - peoples opinions on stuff etc. its fun. there are lots of useless threds that arent being deleted.
a couple of weeks ago i had 1800 posts then al of a sudden one of the mods deleted lots of stuff and i was left with 700.

The one that comes to mind right now is the web cam thread. I'm not savvy enough to provide a url (sorry). Maybe someone else can?

Just tried to look up the posting where I asked why all my posts had vanished..but that's gone too. It was shortly after my name was on the webcam.

No worries... we'll "fix" this problem :). I had much to do the last months but now I have time again to "track" our forum a little bit more .
For me it's important that "my" users have fun browsing this forum (day by day). So, I'll do my best to find an solution for this problem.
Background info: Space is not the problem... it's the serverload (mySQL database), prodused by large forum threads which (can) cause problems. In 2 weeks a new server (for hosting this site) is online which is more powerfull than this (old) one :D.

Do you know if the "deleted" posts will be able to "reappear"?

maybe you could delete really old topics here. and if the cam thread gets too big, make another? or how about we delete the threads from over two years when everyone was bashing portia. times have kinda changed since then. and besides, those threads are old and no one will ever post in them again and they're are way too many of those random threads. i like talking to other people about the webcam while watching it and i know people have said to take it to the chatroom for that, but the chatroom doesnt work on my computer for some reason. there are plently of old threads here asking questions or giving some repeated opinion on something that we could get rid of. like if someone is asking for a pic that's not in the pic request thread, those we could also get rid of. im not sure what we could do, but i agree with michelle and everyone else. this is such a fun site, i just everyone to be happy here.

Amen Sister! A lot of my threads got deleted as well. Especially the ones after my name was posted on the web cam. It's really annoying!

How about...
1. if anything is deleted, edit out long quotes that include duplicates of web cam screenshots
2. Rather than deleting the oldest messages in the longer threads, like the webcam thread, break the thread up by moving the oldest posts to "archive" threads, like "TEDs Webcam 12/2006 - 02/2007" etc.
I'm pretty new here (been around lurking but don't always post much), but, as a professional web developer, I'd be happy to volunteer to help with anything you might need.

thats a good idea. cuz i like going back and looking at old caps, i dont want any of them to be removed lol sorry if that sounds selfish :-P
