Hey everyone!

This is a test! Something wrong has been happening to the forum today and I know some of you have been experiencing the same problems so I want to see if this post will work! I've already PMed GuLbErK, vizitor, they are they two moderators I know of, and James who I believe is computer savvy. This is a major problem we need to get fixed here! If anyone knows web design, I hope you can whip up a new forum right away for us, get all our email addresses and let us know what it is so we can come back to each other and Ellen! I hope I'm thinking way ahead here and this doesn't happen!

Laugh!,
Nicole

I was wondering if anyone could help me with my computer problem :wallbash:

I have not been on my computer all day til a little awhile ago and realized that my desktop icons look like they have been stretched :irre: they are not of normal size. My desktop picture however is of the same size.

I also have the problem with my homepage it seems that everything has been stretched. It looks like it is wide screen but without the black strip at the top and bottom of the page. Hope you know what that means

Can anyone help me?

The first thing I would do is reboot to see if that resolves it.

If that doesn't fix it, try shutting it down for a minute or two and turn it back on.

The next thing I would do is check the desktop size setting to be sure it hasn't changed. That would be in the properties of the desktop, on the settings tab.

On the settings tab what is the screen resolution supposed to be?

Mine is showing 1024 by 768 pixels.

It depends on your computer display.

If it is an LCD screen, the screen has a certain number of pixels across and down it that you should set the resolution to since a smaller resolution might result in an image that is smaller on screen and some unused space. It also can't display a higher resolution image simply because there aren't enough pixels physically present to do so.

An analog monitor, on the other hand, can likely be set to a fairly wide range of settings that would all fill the screen.

I don't have an LCD screen and I've tried changing the screen resolution and without saving the settings, the screen gets more and more wider.

Now when I did a reply to this thread, the Message screen has also gone wider

I'm just at a loss cause I've never seen this happen before :astonished:

Any other suggestions?

You should turn the monitor off and on.

It might also have gone out of adjustment and you might need to adjust the image width.

Where do I find the image width?

jlilest

That would be part of the monitor's setting controls.

They could be physical knobs or they might be in a menu that displays on the screen. That varies a lot.

Well it's a laptop so it doesn't have knobs :D

Thank you for the help James, I'll have to play around with it more  it's just so weird I tell you :irre:

Oooh Thank God for this thread! I was gonna start a new one or PM you James. But I;m gonna post here, so I hope you can help me...

I use Windows not mac as you know, so I hope you'd figure out the problem that I'm having!

Everyime I try to open the 'Task Manager' it looks like this, and doesn't have the options I used to have before like "Turn Off, Restart PC" and I'm facing bloody issues trying to turn of a program or close a folder with this one shape as the options is not available like the old look used to have.

I tried to fix it my self and I tried searching the Help tab in my PC and the website w/o any luck!!

And I would like to take it to the shop.. except I got one problem. There's a lot of files if it's not my whole stuff on my laptop that I need to save (A lot of years of work you can say). And I don't really think I can trust em 100%!! I do take my Laptop & PC to checking, but not this time na'a. I don't think I can trust em not to delete my files cos that happened to me before. ESP now that the DVD Burner is not workin' so I'm trying to save em on USB Flashes until later.

Anyway, enough talking...:woh_wacky: Can you help me? I want that task manager option to go back the way it used to look like!!

Do you have a screen cap of what it looks like?

I got online earlier this morning and all the websites I go to regularly worked fine. Then I tried to get back online again a little later and this screen had popped up on my desktop asking me which way I wanted to connect to the Internet...home, business, and I don't remember the third one. So I just canceled it because I've never had to bother with that before.

So I clicked on my Mozilla Firefox icon and this website is my homepage and it came up just fine. But now all the other websites I go to won't load...it keeps saying Page Load Error.:wallbash: I mean, this is the most important website I need so as long as it's working I'm not freaking out as bad, but I would like my other websites to be working too...does anyone know what the problem could be?

Windows tends to panic if it doesn't see a connection and decides it needs to ask you how to connect. :uglyconf:

Okay, so I have another computer problem..actually, it's a printer problem now. I have been having printer problems for the past month or so, and replacing the black ink was the simple solution, so I just found out. But one of the problems I had while my printer was having problems was that when I would try to print out the Spot the Differences pictures from Ellen's website, it would print out the logo at the top and the words under the picture, but where the two pictures go, and the list of other pics to chose from on the bottom are, all my printer would print was a plain white box. Now that I've put in a new printer, it's still doing the same thing.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? I never used to have a problem printing these things out, and I'm way behind on printing them out, and I would like to get caught up.:wallbash:

Do they show up if you use the option for a print preview?

Are you trying to print the entire page or just part of it?

I just checked and Firefox and Internet Explorer both are working.

What kind of printer is it?

When I click on the small version of one of them it brings up the page full size, but there are no longer any tool bars at the top of the screen with drop down menus for me to select the print option. So I have to Ctrl-P to bring up the Print box. I am trying to just print the page as it appears on the screen...with the advertisement at the top and everything...I don't mind all that.

I am using a HP Photosmart C5280 All-in-One Printer, Scanner, Copier.

The pictures there are part of a flash program display and that likely means that the web browser, which is what ctrl-P is asking to print, doesn't know how to print it.

I'm getting the same effect.

Try right clicking on the image and see if print is available there.

I think that is asking flash to print the page, and it knows how to produce the flash display. That works here and you only get the pictures.

I think I tried that earlier and it worked...but then I gave up because I forgot to set it on Landscape instead of Portrait and now my color ink is out too...must go back to the store tomorrow. Thanks for the tips James. Although, Ctrl-P worked for printing all the stuff on the page before...I don't know why it doesn't anymore.

Of course, you can't even right-click on the pictures either on her website...so it's off to PrtSc and open and crop in Paint.

I have set my browser to prohibit web pages from changing the menus.

I also have the URL visible on those pop-up pages.

It is a Java script that displays the window and that is likely disabling the menu options.

Other pages are web pages and that isn't a web page, it is a Java program window.

Another computer problem...

As of about a week ago now, whenever I get on this site AND Yahoo, I have to sign back in each time, whereas I used to be automatically signed in ALL the time. On Yahoo it would say "Welcome, Nicole" or whatever at the top and the number of emails I had would automatically show up on next to my email button on the screen. And I am not signed on here when I come either anymore.:(

And it's started doing it on my phone too...every time I have to get off of my browser to call someone, when I get back on, I have to sign back in which logs me out of Yahoo Messenger and I have to log back in.

My computer did a virus scan a few days ago and found a virus and got rid of it, but I don't know if that was the cause of this or if it's something else. If anyone knows, please let me know. I mean, I can live with it, it's just a little inconvenience, but it's still kinda aggravating to have to sign in EVERY time I come here (and this site is my home page so I'm ALWAYS here) or to Yahoo.

You might want to be sure you log out here and then delete any cookies related to here and try logging back in with the remember me checked.

I'm pretty sure the site here uses a cookie to remember if you are signed in.
