According to CNN the winds are to die down later today but they have picked up here in Tucson, AZ where I currently am, so it looks like the winds are traveling to the east, thank goodness then maybe they can contain it more.

Best wishes to the families that had to be evacuated.

I'm hoping & praying that you and your family are safe (Adorable) Dawn.

My farm was severely hit by a bushfire a few years back so my heartfelt thoughts & prayers go out to anyone going thru this awful situation.

Update on Dawn: (luv2laugh)

I got an email from her and here is what she said:

Lisa and I are safe. The fires are all around us. Think of a triangle and were in the middle. What a mess though, lots of peolpe evacuating. It is very dry here and lots of wind, very dangerous. Thanks for thinking of me but the danger is not over yet. you just never know.

So lets pray that the fires will stay away from our dear friends... and that the winds will die down and these people will be out of danger. The pictures on TV just scare the hell out of me!

Here is a pic from space of the LA area:

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to ask that everyone please pray that everything will work out today in California, I got a call this morning and 3 of my friends have lost there homes, my corporate office is based out of California and I was inquiring about them and they all called this morning stating they have lost everything. One has even lost her pet because the pet was hiding and they couldn't find her and so they were evacuated so she had to leave her pet behind, she is an emotional wreck. There are 4 others that are still on alert and are not allowed to go back to there homes yet.

I asked what I could do and the only thing is, is that I donate to a local animal shelter because they are in desperate need because a lot of animals are fleeing, so they need food. I will be making another donation today to the SPCA.

Marion my friend who lost her home said it is just insane where she is, she said it's nothing she has ever seen before, it's very hard to breath and the smoke keeps getting thicker and thicker, and it doesn't help that the winds are still learking around.

So I ask for everyone to please pray for everyone's safety and that they'll be able to go back to there homes safe and sound.

I will keep an update.

Thanks.

Hi all,

My other friend Chris has lost his home as well, talked with him about an hour ago and he has lost everything now .

They (fire chief) try and keep them up to date a lot but Chris says it's like the blind leading the blind in there. Chris is currently volunteering because he needs to keep his mind busy.

I'm still not to sure about my other 2 friends, Jennifer and Steve I haven't heard anything from them, but no news is good news, isn't it?

They just need the winds to die down or to just go away, that is what is making it worse.

Please everyone pray for EVERYONE in California.

i was curious because on the news they said that anywhere in so cal you can see the smoke. if i look straight up, i see pure blue. but, as my eyes lowered.....it was all grey smoke. is there a smiley for "HOLY S**T I'M FREAKING OUT"? i really hope everyone is ok....

has there been any reports of fatalities?:(

For those in southern California, hang in there, we are thinking of you.

I just got off the phone with Dawn, (luvs2laugh) and she is fine. She said her and Lisa, (socalisa) live in the same town and the fires are far away from them. She's just getting off work. She's not worried. I told her to get on here and let us know she's ok. Surpized I was able to get through the phone lines. I tried to call a friend in Origon last nite and the phone lines were tied up. Everyone checkin on family and friends I guess.
Razbo just called me 2 ask about my grandma in California. So sweet of her. My grandma is in central California far away from all the fires. Thanks Raz.

Sorry for the dealy I've been up a majority of the night and trying to help my friends in CA. I'm currently in Tucson, AZ and so I'm trying to do what I can to help my friends who have lost everything, I've slept about 3 hours and I now have 3 friends who have lost everything and I'm still waiting on 2 more to find out more information. (They always say no news is good news but in this case I don't feel that way.)

I just contacted the spcaLA and donated privately there, it was the only thing I could think of at the moment but Ellen has the proper information on her website in regards to donating. If anyone is willing to donate please visit Ellen's website and go to the Southern California Fires Update, it gives the info you need.

I will be leaving tomorrow morning for San Diego and helping my friends out and trying to find temporary housing for them. They say today that it is not better then it was yesterday, the winds are still there so there is not much containment in the fires.

I will keep everyone updated. Keep everyone in CA in your prayers.

Thank you to everyone.

Hey everyone,

I just got access to the internet here on the ship, so I am checking in. I am horrified by what is going on back home and can't help but worry. Our house is currently out of the path of the major fires but our neighbors reported a small fire not far from where we live. I know several folks who have been affected by this tragedy and, needless to say, it has been difficult to be on vacation so far from home knowing what is going on there. I can not imagine the devastation that we are going to come home to. Everyone is in my thoughts right now. There are several women on the ship here that are affected by these fires.

Laryssa, please get in touch with me when you get to San Diego. We will be home on Saturday and I understand that you are going to be in the area. Let me know if there is anything I can do.

Also, for those that are donating to the spcaLA - I will be contacting Miriam next to see if she can contact Ellen to see if the funds that we have donated in her honor so far can be put toward this cause. Ellen is the one who gets to decide how the money is used.

Another update - I did get the chance to talk to Betty two days ago and was able to give her information on the spcaLA donation gift. She was receptive and told me she thought that Ellen would love what we are doing. So, for anyone thinking of donating to the 50th birthday fund - now is the most critical time. There are going to be many animals in need due to these fires. I will see if spcaLA can contact Ellen and let her know about our efforts in her honor. I am sure that Ellen would want the money used to help with the animals who are affected by these horrible fires.

I will write back later when I learn more.

Hugs and prayers,
Lisa

Lisa,

First of all, I've been praying for California and hope they find those arsonists and for the weather and it looks like it will cooperate in the next few days.

I did donate money to the SPCALA but I didn't put it in Ellens name since I already donated to that cause too. I donated to D.A.R.T. which is the Disaster Animal Response Team which is designated for these fires. I don't want us to forget Ellen, but D.A.R.T. is what they need at this time.

But this is your decision people. You can do what you want but please donate to either cause. I chose my decision based on reports and from the email I received from the SPCALA that they needed donations to the D.A.R.T. program because they need money NOW.

I don't want to ruin Ellen's party, I even decided to match my gift and donate again for Ellen to "even things out" if you will.

I hope you all understand and don't throw tomatoes at me, but that is what I decided, but like I said, I will match my donation for Ellen as well... perhaps you can donate to both causes too.

This is real and there are animals that need food and shelter NOW. I am sure they are overwhelmed, but please help the animals. Perhaps you can give to both causes, no matter how much you give. Split your donation one for Ellen but also to D.A.R.T.

Lisa, I hope you understand what I am saying. I think you are doing a wonderful job on your cause and I support you 110%! But they need things NOW.

Go Team Ellen!!! Do what YOU think is best. This was just my opinion and what I did. Please don't hate me...:confused:

Lisa and Dawn, am so glad that you're okay and that you, your families and your houses were safe. It was heartbreaking to see all the fires in areas where I travelled not even a month ago. :(

My heart goes out to everyone who has lost their home, I hope that this time help will be more efficient and quicker than it was after Katrina.

Just a warning.

If you are thinking of donating to the California Wild Fires, there are scammers out there (can you believe that?) stating they are from the IRS asking for donations. The IRS said they have done no such thing (imagine that - they just take our money)... ANYWAY, check out the organization before you donate and make sure they are legit and find out where the actual proceeds are going... thats why I donated to the D.A.R.T. program at the SPCALA because I know they did a lot of work rescuing animals... and did a great job.
