Actor Heath Ledger Found Dead
http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/82/70/10/10s.jpg Actor Heath Ledger (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005132/) was found dead at a Manhattan apartment Tuesday afternoon in what appeared to be a possible drug-related death; he was 28. The actor was discovered in one of the SoHo apartment's bedrooms at 3:31 p.m., when a masseuse arrived for a scheduled appointment and the residence's housekeeper went to inform the actor of the masseuse's arrival. He was found unconscious and unresponsive; the New York Times stated that the apartment in question belonged to actress Mary-Kate Olsen (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001581/), who was not present and was believed to be out of state. An initial police report also cited by the New York Times said that foul play was not suspected and that pills had been found near Ledger's body. A native of Australia, Ledger shot to fame as a teen heartthrob in 10 Things I Hate About You (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0147800/) before graduating to more adult roles, most notably his Oscar-nominated turn in Brokeback Mountain (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0388795/). Engaged at one time to Brokeback co-star Michelle Williams (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0931329/), the two had a daughter but had split in recent months. Earlier this year, Ledger wrapped filming on the Batman film The Dark Knight (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/), in which he played The Joker; the film is currently set for release this summer. Further details of the actor's death were not available at press time. --IMDb staff

I was just on PerezHilton.com and this is what I read.
The "Reverend" Fred Phelps's Westboro Baptist Church announced plans (http://www.godhatesfags.com/written/fliers/20080122_heath-ledger-brokeback-mountain.pdf) to protest at the funeral of Heath Ledger.
Why?
The "God Hates Fags" hatemongers will picket the decease Aussie actor's funeral because he is a pervert who promoted homosexuality by appearing as a gay man in Brokeback Mountain.
We wish we could laugh at this stupidity, but it just makes us angry!
Heath may not have been perfect, but he doesn't deserve this.
I went to Fred Phelps website to find out for sure but I think there is too many people on it because I couldn't get into the schedule part. But I am soo sickened that he would even think of doing something like this. It's horrible. I wrote him a nice little email. heres what I wrote. (We need to stop him from ruining Heaths funeral)
I am sick to my stomache about what you do. I just read that you will be picketing Heath Ledgers funeral because he "promoted" homosexuality by starting in Brokeback Mountain. Are you serious??? He didn't promote it. He made a movie that is so real in todays world. He helped thousands if not millions of people that are too ashamed to be themselves, to come out of the closet. Stay away from his funeral. Let his friends, family and co-workers deal with their grief privately. It's already going to be a hard day for them, don't make it harder. Let him R.I.P I believe that everyone has different opinions on life, on how to live, and I believe that people have the right to speak freely, but what you are doing is unbelieveable and wrong in so many ways.
I'm a lesbian. I'm also a Christian. What you are teaching to your followers is completly wrong. What you are teaching is discrimination, racism, sexism. God doesn't teach that in the bible. He teaches love and acceptance, something that you should work on. I have a very close relationship with God, I know that he loves me no matter what. My church knows that too, why? Because they teach love and acceptance, and my church opens me and my partner with open arms. So for you to say that god hates homosexuality you are completly wrong! I guarentee you that God hates you. He doesn't want people teaching discrimination, which is exactly what you are doing. God didn't discrimate anybody, he loved everyone no matter what life style they were living. If you have any compassion at all, you will stay away from his funeral. You will let his loved ones mourn, they definetly don't need anybody like you to ruin the funeral.

I heard it this morning on the radio when I woke up, and started crying. God, it's just so sad... :( From now on I will think of him and all the great things he did everytime I watch the masterpiece Brokeback Mountain.
I've been watching Heath Ledger tribute videos and Brokeback Mountain-clips for about an hour now, and I'm still crying. I mean, the movie "Brokeback Mountain" in itself always makes me cry really much because it's a beautiful, sad movie, but then I'd always wipe my tears afterwards and think "well, at least it's only a movie, just because Jake Gyllenhaal died in the movie doesn't mean he died in real life". But this time it's not "only a movie"...

That's so morbid.
I love his movies.
A Knight's Tale is one of my fave movies.
I have a ton of his work on DVD.
Call me crazy, but I don't think he committed "suicide".
even if he did die from O.D., he lived for his daughter and wife.
and I just can't imagine him doing that.
Kennedy did it.
(only Marilyn Monroe fans will get that.)
but instead of being to dreary over it, I think he should be
celebrate his genius in his work.

He may have simply accidentally taken too many or had a reaction to one of them.

My heartfelt prayers go out to his nearest & dearest, especially his daughter. This is absolutely tragic news. Over here in Oz it's mentioned frequently between songs on the radio & most ad breaks on the TV.
The latest is that is could take between 2-10 days for the toxicology tests to show anything "conclusive". There's also mention of a $20 note that was found near him??? It's being examined. It's just so incredibly sad.

i loved heath (and jake) in brokeback mountain. i remember seeing it at a really small cinema that only has 30 seats with a friend who is a real macho man, and by the end of it we were both in tears. he was such a good actor.
at work, where i process news stories, i often do the obituaries, and last night i just read article after article on how good an actor and person he was, and how he will be missed, and it's all so true, and so sad

From what his family and close friends are saying, they all think it was an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. I think it would be too devastating for them if toxicology results are anything more sinister than that.
I believe Michelle Williams has now arrived back in NY after rushing back from Sweden where she was filming her latest flick. She was accompanied by the couple's wee daughter Matilda and has her Mother and the baby's god-mother ( Dawson's Creek actress Busy Phillips ) to comfort her in the coming days. What a horrible piece of news to be told and my heart goes out to their wee girl :(

The mother of late rock star Michael Hutchence says she has "shed tears" for Health Ledger's daughter, who will never know her father.
"(She), like my granddaughter Tiger Lily, will never know her father ... it breaks my heart to think about her watching his films, like Tiger watches Michael's clips," she said.
Ledger, 28, died in his Manhattan apartment on Tuesday, which would have been Hutchence's 48th birthday.
Hutchence died at Sydney's Ritz-Carlton hotel in November 1997, with the NSW coroner ruling he had committed suicide.
Ledger had been tipped to play Hutchence during a biopic of the late INXS frontman.

Heath Ledger Photo by: Jeff Vespa / WireImagehttp://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2008/news/080204/heath_ledger7.jpgFriends and celebrity colleagues – including Tom Cruise (http://www.people.com/people/tom_cruise), Sienna Miller (http://www.people.com/people/sienna_miller), Ellen DeGeneres (http://www.people.com/people/ellen_degeneres) and director Todd Haynes – gathered on the Sony lot in Los Angeles to remember Heath Ledger (http://www.people.com/people/heath_ledger) on Saturday, PEOPLE has confirmed.
The gathering included industry luminaries and those connected to CAA (the agency that represented Ledger), including Cruise. It comes a week after relatives and close friends – including ex-girlfriend Naomi Watts (http://www.people.com/people/naomi_watts) – paid tribute (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20174029,00.html) to the 28-year-old actor at a smaller service at an L.A. cemetery.
Saturday's service began around noon on the lot, which is closed to the public. Attendees included Miller, Ledger's Casanova costar, and speakers included Haynes, who directed him in last year's Bob Dylan film I'm Not There.

I just saw footage on the news here of Ellen & Portia leaving the memorial in their car and Portia looked very upset.
Apparently E & P met up with the Ledger family and Michelle Williams the night before.

Heath Ledger died of accidental overdose
28-year-old actor had oxycodone, anti-anxiety, sleep aids in his system
NEW YORK - Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose of painkillers, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medication and other prescription drugs, the New York City medical examiner said Wednesday. The cause of death was “acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine,” spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said in a statement. The drugs are the generic names for the painkiller OxyContin, the anti-anxiety drugs Valium and Xanax, and the sleep aids Restoril and Unisom. Hydrocodone is another name for ibuprofen.
