View Full Version : Jason Bateman confirms Arrested movie

This just might be the best news we Arrested fans have heard in a very long time.
Jason Bateman has just confirmed to me that the creative minds behind Arrested Development (Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard) have put the wheels in motion toward a major motion picture of the Fox TV comedy so many of us adore. I'm told by insiders that Jason and other Bluth family members have received calls from producers (Hurwitz and Howard) asking if they would be willing to shoot a movie.
"I can confirm that a round of sniffing has started," Bateman says. "Any talk is targeting a poststrike situation, of course. I think, as always, that it's a question of whether the people with the money are willing to give our leader, Mitch Hurwitz, what he deserves for his participation. And I can speak for the cast when I say our fingers are crossed."
Jeffrey Tambor also revealed on XM Radio's the Ron and Fez Show that he has been approached by Ron Howard to see if he's willing to do an Arrested film. (You can hear that interview below.)
For the record, both Jason and Jeffrey's answers were: Hells yeah. And I hear from other sources that other castmembers were called and that everyone seems to be very much on board and excited by the prospect.
Insiders also tell me that while creator Mitch Hurwitz does not yet have a script, he has a good, solid understanding of what he'd like to do for the movie, and Universal is very much interested.
And so it seems that a few good—wait, no, outrageously amazing—things just might come out of this unfortunate writers' strike, as the creative minds in this town have had time to pause, regroup and think about their dream projects.
And an Arrested movie is a pretty great dream, is it not?
So, let's join our crossed fingers with the rest of the cast, shall we? And how about a little support in the Comments section below?

I'd love to see it. Don't expect to see it happen but it would be AWESOME to see that cast together again. In my opinion, AD was the best show on television...maybe the best in the entire history of television!

Fantastic news!!! It might take a while to get off the ground but as the cast appear so willing to be together again, it's got a great chance of getting off the ground. As it's a wonderfully "quirky" show, AD was absolutely engaging, but particularly seeing Jason Bateman & Portia act in scenes together. They're (apparently) great mates & their closeness comes across on screen.

I hope this talk of a movie becomes a reality. I have become a huge fan of the show, unfortunately AFTER it was off the air. I bought the 3 seasons on Dvd watched every episode, (loved them) and was so disappointed that it was the end.
A movie would be so great for the fans. **crossing fingers**

Something else I found:
With ‘Arrested’ Movie On, Arnett Asks: ‘Have You Seen My Puppet?’
It was barely eight weeks ago that Jason Bateman broke the big news to us: Plans for an “Arrested Development” movie were gaining steam, and the Bluth family hoped to begin cornballing soon after the resolution of the strike.
Now, his older brother G.O.B. is breathing a sigh of relief since Hollywood is going back to work — and he’s eager to once again make magic. “Yeah, we’ve talked about it. We are currently talking about it. But not now, because you and I are talking! And that’d be ridiculous,” grinned “AD” smartass Will Arnett. “But no, we are talking about making the movie.”
The beloved show was unique not only because it was so funny, but in that all the cast members genuinely liked each other. So all indications are that the entire team — from Bateman and Arnett to Portia de Rossi, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor and Michael Cera — would return for series mastermind Mitchell Hurwitz.
The whereabouts of one key cast member, however, remain uncertain. I’m speaking, of course, about G.O.B.’s politically incorrect puppet, Franklin Delano Bluth.
“[His participation] is going to come down to Franklin’s agents, obviously; everybody’s got a price,” Arnett said with an unshakably straight face. “Is Franklin still alive? I don’t even remember what happened to him.”
After the show’s 2006 cancellation, Fox used an eBay account to auction off such memorable “AD” items as Buster’s prosthetic hand, G.O.B.’s Segway and Lucille’s dining room set. While no one seems to know whether Franklin himself was sold, his Adidas sneakers ($45), overalls ($27), shirt ($152) and Franklin Comes Alive album ($326) are long gone.
So, before the movie starts filming, Arnett hopes someone will help him locate his naked, tuneless puppet.
“He did get sold, didn’t he?” Arnett said, speculating that Franklin may have fallen victim to the show’s liquidation. “Did somebody sell him for real? That makes sense.”
“Well, I built the first one, so I’m going to have to build it again. That’s a little ‘Arrested Development’ piece of trivia,” Arnett revealed. “I made Franklin.”
Really? “No, that’s a lie,” he grinned. “How would I know how to do that?”
One thing that isn’t a lie, however, is that Arnett, Bateman and the others are now waiting for Hurwitz to write the script that will bring the Bluths to the big screen — even if it requires a CGI Franklin stand-in. “I think that we’re still a long way from the cup to the lip on this one,” he said of the “AD” flick. “But I think it’ll happen.”

Oh I hope this really happens. I need a Portia fix. I’ve only seen her on Nip/Tuck a few times so I’ve only seen her on tv about 3 or 4 times since “AD” ended. I’d also love to see the girl that played Ann again. I just saw her last friday on “Ghost Whisperer”. Didn’t know if it was new or not but she’s great.

While I didn’t keep track of all items, I’m fairly certain that Franklin was not put on eBay. Back in the day, the word was that one of the cast members kept him.
I’m still waiting for the stair car to show up on eBay.
gray Says:

I don’t think they would have sold him. People would post on message boards about the auction, sure Franklin would have been mentioned. I heard a castmember kept it. Probably George-Michael, that little pothead.

8 Things We Need to See in the Arrested Development Movie

thanks for the link, trinelise3 ;)
this is from the article:
8 Things We Need to See in the Arrested Development Movie
8. The Entire Original Cast
Jason Batemen, Jeffrey Tambor and Will Arnett have all spoken publicly about being in, but that isn’t enough. We want everyone from Ron Howard as the narrator to Scott Baio as Bob Loblaw. If Carl Weathers can’t make this work, the production is in serious trouble. And what about Julia Luis-Dreyfus? Maggie Lizer needs to come back, and this time she should be pregnant for real (or so we think). We know the cameos will be there, sure. But if we don’t get the core cast (I’m looking at you David Cross, Alia Shawkat and Tony Hale), this movie will get bounced from our hearts faster than Britney Spears at a Child Services meeting
7. Lindsay’s Quest to Marry Michael
Lindsay (Portia de Rossi) was always at her best when she was (a) trying to cook (Hot Ham Water, anyone?) or (b) trying to seduce her brother. The storyline of the movie should somehow set up Lindsay’s lust for Michael. We know that the writing team can figure it out. They’ve had plenty of time to think about it.
6. A Big Focus on the “Nevernude” Epidemic
It is sweeping the nation — and if the AD movie wants to stay socially relevant, we are going to require a serious commitment to David Cross in cutoffs.
5. The Stair Car
The world of the Bluths would not be the same without their primary mode of transportation. Oh, and plenty of hop-ons.
4. Lucille 2
While it will be great to see Lucille 1 back in action, driving the self-esteem of her children into the ground, we are going to need some time with Lucille 2 (Liza Minnelli). As well, there will need to be awkward sexual tension between Lucille 2 and Buster — it’s just he natural order of things.
3. The Banana Stand
Heaven forbid they forget the Bluth family Banana Stand. That’s all.
2. Maeby’s Career as a Hollywood Mogul
Toward the end of the series, Maeby was on a roll. We need her to be back in action, possibly pitching a major motion picture about the Bluth family. This is where Ron Howard can step away from being the narrator and jump back in front of the camera (Did we mention that Howard needs to be back as narrator, or else…)
1. GOB. Magic Show. Final Countdown. Girls with Low Self Esteem.
This one is almost self-explainatory. Did you know that the song “Final Countdown” plays every time GOB (Will Arnett) gets on stage to do a magic show? That needs to be in the flick. As well, we’d like to see a magic show during spring break. And while we’re at it… Why not bring back Judy Greer as Kitty Sanchez? WOOOOO!
And those are just the obvious ones. But that is where you come in. We know that you have a grab-bag full of Arrested Development follies that you will need to see in the film adaptation. Please leave your thoughts, ideas and pre-requisites for cinematic greatness in the “Sound Off” section below.
