Hey everyone!
There used to be a thread on here about iPods I think, but I can't find it so I'm starting a new one. I had a bunch of videos on a DVD on my computer and something happened and the disc wouldn't write anymore videos. So I tried to copy the ones that I had on it to my hard drive to re-copy them to a new DVD, but then the entire screen went blue and I couldn't get it to do anything. It only copied a few videos from my DVD. I had to restart my computer.
All my videos that I put on a disc I then convert into my iTunes to put on my iPod. My question is...is there a way to get videos that are in iTunes that are mp4 back onto a DVD to play in Windows Media Player? Cause I still have them all in iTunes, but I'm trying to put them all back on a new DVD.
Are there any iPod/iTunes/computer gurus out there who can help me? I know James is a computer guru, but he doesn't have an iPod.
This is very frustrating!

if you have the new windows media then you will be able to do that but if you don't have the new windows media you cannot. I hope this helps a little:confused:

I have Windows Media Player on my laptop, but not "new" windows media. What is that? Is there a place where I can download that for free?
Basically, what I need to do is convert the videos in my iTunes back into whatever format they were when I downloaded them from youtube and saved them onto my computer and then onto a DVD...but still while keeping them in my iTunes.
So if I copy a video from iTunes to my hard drive (c:) is there a way to convert that file back to whatever it was when I orginally downloaded it?

You could convert them to windows media format using the stand-alone conversion program at http://www.mediaconverter.org/
It actually supports a lot of other formats as well.

Just in case you want the other one, it is on the left side of the main page, about the middle of the page.
It is labeled, "Download the Converter"

There is a thread with several methods...
How to download videos from youtube (http://ellen.4thdimension.info/forum/showthread.php?t=5031)
There is another one somewhere, I'll update this when I find it...
I can't locate it at the moment, but if you use Firefox, I like DownloadHelper, it is an extension that works with it to capture videos from YouTube among other places...
http://www.downloadhelper.net/
You can use Riva (http://www.downloadhelper.net/) free FLV player, it is available through Downloads and then in the Free Riva FLV Player 1.2 section, click the download via Download.com

This is going to sound like a really stupid question, but is there a way to retrieve stuff you've deleted out of your Recycle Bin? Or is it permanently gone from your computer once you do that?
My iTunes has just gone haywire!!! All my music is in my Recently Added folder and I reallzed the other day that all the videos I convert to put on my iPod were in a folder on my computer taking up space so I deleted them a few days ago. Now they have been wiped out of my iTunes all of a sudden and all my Ellen videos are gone! I have a lot of them on DVDs so I can convert them back on my iPod, but something is really wrong with my iTunes and I don't know why it's doing this!! And I REALLY don't wanna take the time to put all those videos back on there...but I guess I will if that's my only option!! And I won't delete them from my computer this time!:mad::mad:

Once you empty the recycle bin, getting them back is at best very hard.
If you have used the computer since, it might well have overwritten the part of the hard drive that the deleted files were on.
I think the general advice is to just turn off the power to the computer and use a second computer with that drive attached to recover the files onto a different drive.

Yeah, I figured it was going to be complicated like that! I'll just have to manually put the videos back on there. I have a lot of them backed up on two DVDs, the only problem is, a while back I lost everything on the first DVD and had to start over with that so now I will probably have a few videos missing on my iPod that I won't be able to remember. I am making a list starting now of all the videos I put on my iPod...I'm going to write it...ON PAPER so I don't lose it!:p
Thanks for the info though James. Are you having the time of your life yet?:D

iTunes is Evil very EVIL!! Here is what I do. I use a spare hard drive, and I create seperate folders. I have an Iphone so I have tons of stuff on it and I need to keep everything organized. So I use a spare harddrive just for things like itunes.
Because unfortuantely iTunes requires you to keep the file on the computer. Since I have hundreds of videos and thousands of songs I cant keep them on the comptuer itself it takes up so much space. So I use a spare drive keep everything organized on there and when I wanna use iTunes I just plug in the drive and everything thats on my iTunes pops up.

Yeah, an external hard drive right? You plug it into your computer, right? I've been thinking about getting one of those. Maybe I'll wait until someone asks me what I want for Christmas...LOL!! That would be great because the videos take up space on the hard drive on the computer and having an external one would be great! Thanks for the info!!:)
For now, I'm in the process of putting all the videos back on iTunes...ugh!!

An external drive is much easier to connect.
I have a couple of terabyte drives that I have television shows on.
Mine can connect by USB or Firewire. The firewire may only work with Mac's though.

Yeah, I'm gonna get one that I can connect with a USB drive since I have three drives on the side of my laptop.

Yea just a regular external harddrive. I have two 80 gig drives, and Ive got litterly hundreds of thousnands of files spread between the two mostly music and pictures but I do have a couple hundred videos and tv shows on them and a drive to back up all my pictres and music stored in a saftey deposit box but im extreme when it comes to backing stuff up.
one 120 or 180 gig drive will probably work best for all the videos you have.

bgfilly, I'm assuming you have iTunes. What version do you have? Mine keeps trying to update to 8.0.1 but every time it tries it there is an error and it won't update. Meanwhile, without an update, I can't pull up my iTunes and even when I do, it doesn't recognie or pull up my iPod when I have it plugged in!! I have had this problem the last time there was an update that needed to be done, but I think I finally got it to work somehow...or at least I guess I did because my iPod has been working okay up until yesterday when iTunes started trying to update to the latest version again.
Right before that everything went haywire and my Recently Added folder now has just about everything in my library in it instead of just the last few things I have added to my library. And did I mention I lost all my videos? Yeah, I did....and I just got them all put back on my iPod and now the stupid crap won't even work right!!
Okay so.....any advice?
EDIT: Okay, so when I go to the Apple iTunes website it says Download iTunes 8, and when I checked my iTunes it says 8...so I'm guessing mine is up to date. And my iPod finally got recognied and was syncing, but now it is not being recognied again. I don't know why I'm rambling all this on here, but I'm just frustrated!! I'm starting to hate iTunes!!:(
