I think that would be because it is not a holiday there.

In the United States it came from the Pilgrims having a celebration of their harvest. It is mostly a North American thing.

I am thankful to have such a wonderful family. We take for
granted what we have in the world and we need to give thanks more often to the people around us that make our lives so special.
