When does Ellen typically NOT tape her show? Are there certain weeks of the year? For example, surrounding statutory holidays?

She usually does not tape a show for Thanksgiving Day, there are two whole weeks around the middle of December that they take off for the Christmas holidays, usually one week in March for Spring Break, I think they usually tape several shows in one week and then we get a week of commercials before they go to Orlando every year too, which means a week of repeats, then a week of new shows, then another week of repeats for us in and around March.

And they are off during the summer, usually from the end of May to the beginning of September. Actually Ellen and her staff go back to work in August, but the new seasons don't start for us until the beginning of September. Hope this answers all your questions.

Oh! I really hope I am around when Ellen comes to Orlando this year! That would be wonderful. Maybe Blu can meet us there?

Ellen has not made an official announcement on whether or not they are going to Orlando this year yet, but I'm assuming they are. They might have a contract with Universal or something to do a certain number of years there, OR they might want to try something new this year, who knows!!

I personally still think she should go to New Orleans for about a week, one because it is her hometown, and two, I could try to go.:)

I can't remember if this was posted or if misskitty told me personally. She had pm'd Brian to ask if TEDS was taping in NYC this season. Remember that misskitty moved to Long Island--
Brian's reply was that TEDS wasn't going anywhere.
I've been listening for the Grammy taping announcement---Apparently they are staying home this season.

I too would love to see TEDS in NOL.

Yeah, but remember they usually went to NYC in November for the week of Thanksgiving, which would have been 2008 if they were to have gone this season. So maybe when he said they weren't going anywhere this year, maybe he just meant the year of 2008. I think the whole TEDS/NYC relationship has changed a bit since the whole writer's strike ordeal. I don't know, we'll just have to wait and see. If they go to Orlando, Ellen should be announcing soon in the next few weeks.

I would tend to think that he would think in terms of seasons. :astonished:

They might still go somewhere next season.

Maybe since they moved to the Warner Bros. lot this season they are wanting to find new things to do there instead of wandering off to their usual places. Apparently that lot is a lot bigger than the NBC lot and they tape a lot more shows there, therefore there is more for her to get into at WB...:p.

Perhaps the Clooney hunt used up their remote piece budget. :uglyconf:

I just checked back and the October 2nd taping opened up on September 18th last year.

You should probably watch the ticket page as much as possible as soon as late November starts opening up.

If you remind us, we can probably help you watch. :astonished:

When does Ellen typically NOT tape her show? Are there certain weeks of the year? For example, surrounding statutory holidays?

I was asking as I won VIP tickets to the Ellen Show back in October 2008 from a T.V./radio promo here in Vancouver, B.C. (watch the Ellen show, be able to answer a trivia question & be the right caller with the answer the next morning).
What I won were 2 VIP Ellen tickets, 2 nights hotel, airfare for 2.
We extended the trip by 2 days at our own expense as we haven't had a honeymoon or a trip together on a plane (just the 2 of us - without my Mom) at all in 13 years. We were going to go to Disneyland too!

Right from the second I first heard about the contest, I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to win. Somehow I think that helped me to actually WIN! I cried on the radio when I won.

Even though I won in Oct. '08, it wasn't until the end of January '09 that we were finally contacted by the local t.v. station to give them some dates in March/April/or May that would work for us.

First choice was April (when Bruce Springsteen would have his concerts in L.A.!)
That's why I was asking about blackouts... maybe blackouts around Easter?
They did film the show that week, but I did not get those dates in April I wanted.

We were scheduled for May. Would have been at the show with Matthew Fox & Lady Gaga! We were so excited and so looking forward to our trip!!!

Our dog got sick about a week before our trip, then got super sick as in we thought he was going to die! It was devastating. We have had him since he was a little puppy and he is now 14 years old. He has been super healthy his whole life and it was completely unexpected.

I explained to the show (local & L.A.) our situation and the local station told us the whole trip was all non-refundable, non-exchangeable, etc.

So, we said we likely would not be able to make the trip, or maybe only I could make the trip.
If our dog died, it would be an escape for us to get away. But, everything would all be very last minute, down to the wire.

I thought they were all animal lovers and would understand. Especially Ellen and her staff.

(But, I actually got in trouble from the local t.v. station for contacting someone from the Ellen show via finding him on facebook). That Ellen staff member did not reply to me at all, he replied to the local t.v. station contact and I got in sh**.

I actually had my bags packed in case I felt I could go alone at the last minute.
I couldn't...
Our dog was somewhat stabilized, but only my husband could carry him around and up and down the stairs and give him his medicine (he's 60 to 70 pounds). My husband HAD to stay home with him.

Going to the Ellen show just didn't feel right alone and under the circumstances (plus I found out the Ellen show cancelled our show tickets!!!!) So even though our airfare and hotel sat there unused if we couldn't make it last minute, ... if we had made it last minute we would have been turned away at the Ellen show! Plus, we'd extended our trip so it would be 5 nights alone for me if I went by myself.

I still can't understand why the Ellen show would cancel our tickets. You'd think if we didn't make it there by 2 p.m. or whatever the cutoff was to check in for the show, then somebody else in line would make it in instead of the riff raff room?

When I did find out they cancelled our tickets, and explained our situation yet again, (if our dog dies it is our escape, or I may go alone) they offered us tickets to the next day's show, (Jay Leno was the guest), but we had until the end of that day to confirm (a few days before we were to leave). There was no way we could confirm, everything was last minute for us... as in plane leaves Sunday, we'll know Sunday morning whether or not one or both of us gets on that plane.

So, basically, if I had gotten on the plane that Sunday morning in May, I would have had 5 days alone in L.A. and no Ellen show taping to attend.

We're still reeling from our whole experience in May with not attending the Ellen show and our prize trip. And of course our sick dog ($2000 plus in vet bills that week), who is thankfully now feeling much better.
All our time with our dog now is "bonus" time.

We are trying some unconventional treatment with him, and it seems to be working?
Treatment recommended by a neighbour and not our vet.
Our neighbour's vet is actually wanting to write her up in vet medical journals.

We balled our eyes out for our "vacation" week we spent home with our dog instead of at the Ellen show and in L.A. and Disneyland.

But what can we do now except for be thankful for the time we have left with our amazing dog?

It still feels like we're anticipating this Ellen trip that is never going to happen...
I guess we were looking forward to it for so long, Oct. '08 to May '09!

Maybe Ellen will come to Vancouver and we can make it to that show?

...and one day we'll make it to the Ellen show in L.A. and for a honeymoon in Disneyland...

They kind of alluded Ellen might come to Vancouver in today's newspaper? That the show may come here as promo for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics?

Anyways, thanks for "listening"... I really felt I had to tell my story to other Ellen fans...

Sorry for all your troubles with the promotion tickets. Maybe the Ellen show will respond to you when someone in the organization in the right postition hears about your situation. Some of those promotions are from secondary sellers. There was a promotion locally that included tickets to the Ellen Show, but it was sponsored by one of the "entertainment tabloid shows". They acquire VIP tickets from TEDS for promotion purposes then offer them to their viewers to promote their own show.

I'm not sure exactly what the deal was, but the local t.v. affiliate was dealing directly with the Ellen show in L.A.

The contest was promoting Ellen through the local t.v. station that her show is on.

They were VIP tickets that were e-mailed to me less than three weeks before our trip.
There was a contact name & phone number for the director of affiliate relations (from the Ellen Show) at the bottom of the page for when we were in L.A. if we needed it.

When our dog became deathly ill just before our trip, I searched and found this person from the show on Facebook and explained our situation. He never contacted me directly.
Instead, he or his assistant, phoned the local t.v. station rep, who then contacted us at home the next day and told us everything was non-refundable, non-transferable, etc.
(& gave me sh** for contacting somebody from the show).

Then... we found our our Ellen tickets had been cancelled, even though it had all been explained there was the chance we would both make it or I would make it alone (all explained in my previous post).
I still don't understand why they would do that.
That was definitely a big part of the reason I couldn't face the trip alone that Sunday morning. It was like being hit when you're already down.... and that was the whole purpose of the trip.... to see the Ellen show. We had been really excited.

If our dog had died, we would have taken the trip as an escape, and not been let into the Ellen show...

I guess it's my fault, if I had never contacted them about our sick dog, our tickets still would have let us in IF we had arrived and had never said anything.

But, everybody kept telling me to contact Ellen, she's a dog lover, she'll understand... blah blah blah. I tried the best way to contact her I could think of, through somebody from her show who I found on Facebook. He obviously got the message right away.

I still can't understand the logic of their thinking. There's always an overflow/riff-raff room, so somebody would have just moved up into our position if we had not made it.

And if I had never contacted them about our sick dog, our tickets still would have let us in IF we had arrived and never said anything.

Water under the bridge now... trip didn't happen.

Our dog is still alive and feeling well and that is what matters now.

For all the happiness I felt watching the Ellen show in the past, I kinda watch it now wondering if it's all "smoke and mirrors", all for t.v. ratings?
