New header graphic contest

We found, the header graphics on our portal (http://ellen.4thdimension.info) page are not really looking good.

So, we are looking for new pictures to use in the (rotating) header that you see at the top of the home page (http://www.ellen-degeneres.com/) (see attached screenshot).

The image(s) dimensions are (fixed):
970px (width) × 125px (height)

Help us freshen up the look of the site with your Photoshop work.

Note: You don't have to add/write "Ellen-DeGeneres.com - Your Ellen Community" on your banner/grapic. This will be added automatically (via an transparent PNG file).

Note: If you use an photo (from the web for example), make sure you're allowed to use it (copyright law)!

If quality is good enough you can use it :).

Also make sure, your image(s) fits into the color scheme (which is blue ;)).

Yes, 125px height are correct (I rechecked it).

BTW: Here's the first banner from "arcticM (http://ellen.4thdimension.info/forum/member.php?u=19466)" (see attached screenshot) :).

We'll collect some banners during the next days/weeks. After that we can make a survey which banners we should use.

I definitely vote this banner!!! I loved this pic when she stood right in front of the webcam and looked into it! I've had this picture as my desktop background since she did this all the way back in January!!:D

It took me for freaking ever to cut out the background of that image... so it would just have Ellen instead of the background... my freaking cat almost ruined it for me when she flipped out, knocked over the fan, fell on the tower of DVDS and knocked those over and she ran and jumped on the keyboard... she is crazy, but I love her!

Relating to the banner shown on the top of the FORUM (the pink one)... if this "contest" is running well, we'll make another contest for the mentioned banner :cool:.

I prefer the way it is, because with this solution/way, the text is the same on all banner images. This gives a "clean" layout (related to the text). Also it's easier to change the text. If the text is "hardcoded" in/on the image, we have to change all images (banners) if you want to change the text.

Sorry for my bad english... I hope you understand what I mean ;).

Why wouldn't it be good? It can be cropped however you need it to be...any of the ones I posted can be cropped to fit however they need to.

I am too, and I cry everytime I watch it. In the theatre, when it came out, off topic but I have to tell this story. We didnt have a theatre here so we had to drive an hour to go see it. I sat in that theatre and bawled from when Rose jumped from the life boat until an hour after the movie was over. No lie. I came out of the theatre and there were TONS of people in line and I am just bawling... my friend saw me and asked me if I was okay if I needed help. And I just said "Its just so so sad!" And shes like "Whats wrong what is it?" And I yelled "THE MOVIE IS MAKING ME CRY!" People laughed and I said to them, "just wait it will get to you too!" So my friend and I walked down the mall to Target and I cried the whole way there and to the place where we ate.

As for my submissions, I know they suck... I just need something constructive to do.

I love your forum banners...I can't do anything cool like that, so...

As for Titanic...it's my all-time favorite movie. E.T. comes in at a close second place probably. But I went to see Titanic six times in the movie theater...more times than I've ever seen any one movie in the theater. And one time when I went, there were people sitting on the floors it was so packed!! It is a sad story...the love-story side of it, and the true-story side of what really happened.

And when it finally came out on VHS:p, my aunt worked for a video distribution company and she used to get movies in the mail so I didn't have to go out and buy it. So I remember sitting at my grandparents' house all day waiting for it to arrive in the mail...because that's where she had all her main mail sent since she lived right down the road and spent more time at their house than her own anyway.:rolleyes: And when it finally came it was in a thick box, and there were TWO VHS tapes in it because the movie is so long it couldn't all fit on one TAPE...LOL!! And I ran to the spare bedroom in the back of their house, turned it on and watched the whole thing...and then 3 1/2 hours later when it was over...I watched it all over AGAIN!!:D Great movie and I hope nothing beats it for a long time.

Anyway, back to topic...LOL!!

I have no idea how all the tech stuff works, but maybe pick six, or ten. Every time a person goes to a new page, a new banner can be at the top. They can be rotated, random or whatever.

I think it would be a shame to only have one of these great banners be used. Each banner is great in its own way. I really like the thematic ones.

Only one banner I've not taken over. It's this one... I've decided not to use it because it's a little bit "cloudy/diffuse".

You have to delete your Cache (webbrowser).

The reason why the banners are getting cut off I've to check. The old images had a size of 970x125, too. But you're right, the new banners getting cut off. I'll fix this :).
