Hi Everyone,

My partner and I will be going on our dream holiday to the USA next year in October/ November and we are looking for as much advice on how to travel on a budget. We are hoping to semi-backpack, but it is more, travel on a budget.

Out trip goes as follows

LA - To see Ellen, any tips on how to go, we are from Western Australia and it is my dream to go and watch a taping.
Las Vegas - San Francisco - Seattle - Vancouver - Chicago - Washington - New York City - Boston.

Can I please have any suggestions on cheap hotels, motels, or backpackers accommodation, places to eat, things to see for free. Also I am a HUGE sports fan, but I have no idea what sports are on around October - November.

Please any information will be fantastic.

Cheers,

Jess and Jess :D

Well if you come to LA stay at the Safari Inn. They have cheap rates right now on Orbitz.com right now and its only about a mile away from the studios. As far as anything else, I am not sure of. Good luck and it sounds like fun your trip. You will love it!

If you need any help with San Francisco just give me a PM.

My friend from Sydney Aus is coming to visit me in SF in Decemeber, I got tons of touristy stuff planned for her to see/visit. so I can pass that over to you if you like :)

Sounds like a great trip, i'm actually planning the same sort of thing for next August but in reverse of what you're doing (starting on the east coast, going across the top, down the west coast and back along the bottom). I'm still in the early planning stages as it's hard to find flights/hotels more than a year in advance.

I found a great company called Hostelling International though (http://www.hihostels.com/web/index.en.htm) they seem to have lovely hostels at quite cheap prices, i'll probably be staying in one or two of those.

Thank you so much for all your information, keep it coming. The holiday just got better, I had my 21st birthday 2 days ago and my best friend got me tickets to see Ellen in October 2010, she also managed to pull some strings and got me a VIP ticket to meet her in person. I am sooooooo happy right now... Now I just have to figure out what to say to her haha. :)

Hmmm how did she get tickets for 2010, when they aren't showing on the TEDS site:confused:

Maybe that is part of what it is to be a VIP, you get them before others. :uglyconf:

Be sure to tell us about your trip and of course meeting Ellen. :D
