Hey all:

Anyone knows which software is best to use when converting a SWF file into a WMV file but will not distort the quality? Please advise.
Thank you....:p

I think that ends up being very tricky because SWF files can in effect be programs.

You might end up needing the Adobe editor and see if it can get access to the component files.

If you can capture an FLV file associated with a video, which is used on a lot of flash sites, that can be converted.

Thanks James.
File says its a Shockwave Flash Object..... what is it are a bunch of power point slides with audio captured and saved as a video.

However, Youtube or the website server will not take swf files....must convert to wmv first.

Go any ideas?

I don't think that there is a free option.

My solution here is to play it on one of my computers and record it with my DVR and then use the video from that.

That erodes quality a lot though since it goes through analog TV.

If you buy the Adobe shockwave creation software, it might allow you to pull out the contents, but I've never used it.

I at one time found a program, but what it did was play the video on the screen and then try and capture it to make a massive AVI file.

It was horrible and didn't get any audio.

Media Convert which is free will not work. I tried it. Just to let you know.

I use 'Any Video Converter' which pretty much converts any video from one format to another. It's easy to use (With a bit of trial and error ;)) comes with a viewer and basic editor and the best thing is it's free :)

I wasn't sure if it converted .swf files to .wmv, so I've just tested it now and it worked fine. Depending on your original file you may lose a little quality, but to be honest for the convenience of being able to do it, it's not much.

I hope this helps :)

Thank you...

I have this open...but somehow the error message says unable to open source input file. Seems like I cannot open that file from the converter software. But I am able to open the file by click it directly from the hardrive---so weird.

If the SWF file came from a website, it might be that it used a media file from there.

If it is a public page, you could post a link and I and hopefully some others can check and see what we see.

It is a media file--or at least I was told its hosted on their server.
I may try recording it from their server and save it in a different format and see if quality hold up. Otherwise....but be easier just to re-do a brand new one.

Perhaps it is a message from the universe for me to do a new one...... :D
