The Game Show Network’s Newlywed Game will make history this year--by adding same-sex celebrity pairs to their format.
The network is in the midst of producing special Celebrity Newlywed Game episodes, one of which will feature the first gay contestants ever: George Takei (Sulu from the original Star Trek series) and longtime partner Brad Altman. The duo married in September 2008 in Los Angeles, Ca., just before the state's Proposition 8 approval banned same-sex marriage. While Takei and Altman will mark the groundbreaking game show moment, they weren't the first asked. GSN approached Ellen DeGeneres and her partner Portia de Rossi to participate, the blondes turning down the offer as they did their own version on Ellen's talk show in March of '08. Other celebrity couples featured in upcoming episodes this year will include, first America’s Next Top Model winner Adrienne Curry and Brady Bunch star Christopher Knight, Bachelor Bob Guiney and All My Children actress Rebecca Budig as well as Baywatch babe Brande Roderick and former NFL linebacker Glenn Cadrez. The Takei episode will be taped next week and air in November. A newlywed couple is defined by having been married in the past four years. The show is hosted by Carnie Wilson. http://www.radaronline.com/exclusive...-celeb-couples Good for them to turn it down. Too much controversy at this time....lots of people still not accepting of their wedlock. Better to turn it down then to risk career disruptions and having to invest the time and effort to fight the opposition. Last edited by Jats : 09-15-2009 at 11:49 AM. |
