Ellen DeGeneres tops Oprah as #1 TV personality | pageoneq.com reports: "Openly lesbian household name Ellen DeGeneres has surpassed superstar Oprah Winfrey as America's favorite TV personality among adults in a nationwide Harris Interactive poll.
American TV viewers have showed a strong preference among the general population, and especially single women and Democrats, for the actress and veteran stand-up comedienne. DeGeneres, bumping Oprah into the #2 slot, becomes the first openly gay celebrity to reach #1."

A Message from Ellen (January 14 - 18 / 2008) | I hope you enjoyed my favorite kids week as much as I did. I love kids. I'm thinking about opening up a daycare in the riff raff room. It's too bad that we have to grow up, but I guess at some point, the parents really need the break. I read that the only animals that stay with their parents longer than humans are whales. It's probably easier having a whale baby. You never have to get them to clean their room, you never have to make them wash behind their ears. ...I don't think whales even have ears. ...I wonder how they keep their glasses on?
Marc Yu is great on the piano, but I like his jokes even more. Of course, Emily Bear was wonderful as usual. I wish she could be on every day. Maybe I should have an all kid house band. Tristan and Nic Puehse are amazing skateboarders. I bet their mom is a nervous wreck. Someday, when he's headlining in Vegas, you'll go to see the grown up Anthony Gargiula and say to yourselves, "I first saw this guy on Ellen." I can't wait to hear his backstage reports from American Idol. Speaking of Idols, I was totally surprised by Mary J. Blige's birthday present. What a gift to have someone so talented sing for me. It was great to see all the improvements that ZOOTOO made to Janice Wolf's animal refuge. What a fantastic human being.

A Message from Ellen (January 07 - 11 / 2008) | Happy New Year!
2008 is so fresh and clean and, wait a minute, (sniff) it still has that New Year smell. I hope you had happy holidays. That's what holidays were invented for -- happiness. I'm not sure what the first holiday was, but I bet even then, people had fun decorating the cave and putting lights and ornaments on the Christmas rock as they grunted out their favorite carols. I bet that the first New Year probably wasn't that much of a big deal since everybody was still getting used to the whole "time" thing, but I'm sure that by the time the second year rolled around, everybody was ready to celebrate in Times Square.

A Message from Ellen (December 17 - December 21 / 2007) | Wouldn't it be great if the holidays and the holiday spirit lasted year round? But then, I guess it wouldn't be as special as it is when it's just once a year. Plus, we'd all go broke having to buy presents over and over again. We'd have to permanently plant a tree in our living rooms. It's probably a good thing that we only have egg nog once a year. Once a year, it's kind of a treat. Egg nog on a hot summer day? Maybe not.

A Message from Ellen (December 10 - December 14 / 2007) | I've got it. Do you have it? I've officially got the Christmas spirit! It helps that the weather has been a little chilly. You can smell chimney smoke in the air at night. They should make "chimney smoke on a cool night" potpourri. It's magical. You know what else is magical? Giving. Sometimes I think I'm one of the luckiest people in the world because every year at this time I get to give away thousands of gifts. I kinda know how Santa feels, or Scrooge after he wakes up from those ghosts. We kicked off my 12 Days Of Giveaways and so far, so great! Did you meet "Big Package?" He's a little square, but he's very sweet and he loves to dance like me. You should see the piles of gifts the elves have stacked up in the gift barn in the back, and they're just going to keep getting better and better.
I got a little gift myself this week. I got to talk to Jenna Bush's dad. I think we caught him off guard. He was probably relaxing after a hard day of work, and I interrupted him and Laura while they were in the middle of Guitar Hero 3. Vanessa Williams was a lot of fun, and so were newlyweds Michelle and John Brubaker. Maybe one of the best wedding dances ever. Did you see 9 year-old Carl Brown Jr., and 8 year-old Davis Soots? Carl saved Davis' life by giving him the Heimlich maneuver. What a great story. I'm really lucky to have some of the most incredible kids on my show like the amazingly talented Anthony Gargiula. He's like Clay Aiken in an 8 year-old's body. It was great having Paula Deen back for the holidays. How about that chocolate cheese fudge?
